You're right to a extent, but I believe it's mainly "a eye for an eye" situation for the people and the family and because no sensible person would want tax payer dollars going towards feeding and housing this kid murdering scumbag. He ruined his chance to live his life freely and at least be a decent person and contribute to his family and society the moment he killed that kid. Even if the kid somehow survived, and even with no lasting handicap, I'd still want him locked up for life for shooting a kid.

I've heard that it's more expensive to give someone the death penalty than it is for them to have life in prison. Idk though.

And yeah some dollars will pay to feed him but who cares? It's feeding his miserable existence where he will never be happy again. That's worth it.

Killing him immediately now is almost the same as if he had shot the boy and then shot himself after. He escapes into death.

Let him live for decades thinking about what he's done like the piece of shit he is.

The death penalty should be more cruel. They should give someone 40 poker cards every week. One of them means they'll force you to listen to the Barney song for 24 hours, one means they'll beat the crap out of you for 20 min, one means you'll get your balls stomped that day once, and one means you die. Something like that.

That way if they're happy in prison they gotta be scared every waking moment knowing that they'll die once they pick the wrong card. They won't be able to rest and they'll feel fear like the victims felt.

Maybe execution won't be more expensive than housing him, considering who knows how old this guy could live to be? Plus, executing him won't allow him the satisfaction of being able to quickly end his own life on his own terms. He gets to live, for awhile, potentially agonizing, knowing he will be killed, and thus can regret that he did not turn the gun upon himself, or that if he even shot the kid, as his death will be made a spectacle of, with the victim's family being able to watch and and even rejoice as their son's murder's life is brought to a end before their very eyes. Lastly, he could suffer if something goes "wrong" during the execution, he also won't have the last laugh, and the family can have some sense of closure.

Yes. , I believe it is true that, due to the extra expense of death row block, and the long appeals process that every prisoner gets before the execution, it is cheaper to incarcerate then for life.

take for instance a situation here in NY where a guy is getting out of jail now for raping and killing two women in the 70s out in westchester in front of their kids.

granted he will be 70s when he gets out, but thats not the point.
