Y'know what I think we're gonna do Battle Royale as a future fed instead of Hunger Games. (unless somebody has attachments otherwise) Hunger Games is one of those fandoms that I feel like was real big and then just disappeared one day.

Battle Royale has more of a legacy, I feel. Hunger Games kind of lost itself in the wind after awhile, for an outsider's look. *I have never read any of the books or seen the Hunger Game movies, have read the former's manga and seen the live action film, so I... *might* be biased, though. ^_^'

The manga's a bit big, and there's the novel that I've never read... and apparently there're two Battle Royale 2s and a sidestory bout two character from the first BR that *also* I didn't even know existed. I can't comment on the quality of anythin' other than the original manga, but that's not bad at all.

I've seen and read all the hunger games and watched the main two BR movies.

They are very different takes on BRs with Hunger games being a flashier reality show style set up surrounding the battles that I found very interesting. and Hunger games really only has one and a half books that are battle royales. The rest are just teen dystopian fiction (and not nearly as good as the battles imo)

I would've guess might have something to do with the owners and bookers styles as wellll? Then again Bischoff and Russo are in charge of WCW here as well and that *should* mean that it's dead again.

another thing to consider is that we try to stat people vaguely appropriately for their age, and a lot of the feds so far heavily feature teenagers, which....I mean would you wanna watch a WWE full of fifteen year old rookies? I might've gone a bit too hard on them in my rework of Lopen's old 2016 guidelines but A) I'm not changing it halfway through and B) if I boosted them up they'd likely be OP in long games instead of being UP in short ones

As for actual wrestling feds, I don't think it helps that there's basically a world war going between WWE+WWF and WCW+AEW (and all the small feds getting pillaged by both sides). IIRC there's some variety in which of the big feds survive, but it's usually exactly one.

Sometimes lack of TV support is an issue too, but it shouldn't be right now.

Anyway man there sure are a lot of Japan feds that I care about just barely enough to keep around lol. Good news is I won't get as easily sucked down wiki rabbit holes, I guess.

So I don't think worker stats have a ton of influence on whether companies go out of business, particularly when they're all understatted.

It's probably an issue of starting funds, owner spending/roster tendencies, starting show schedules, starting rosters and contract types, and how many TV deals are available to be grabbed and how lucrative they are. Like show quality lets feds grow but it going up in size doesn't actually make a company profitable-- you get higher passive administration costs and stuff. In fact the easiest size to keep afloat at is Cult imo since you can sign guys to writtens and avoid company wars and the passive costs are lower. BUT if you get kicked down to Cult when you've got a bunch of national level contracts and a TV deal that requires national due to a company war it gets really hard. If you're staying at National with those same things not as much.

I don't know enough about how all these things play to really know what the answer is. I just know actual show quality in terms of game mechanics is most relevant in company wars, and all that is relative. If all the workers are graded harshly then all the shows are going to be playing with the same handicap

So my guess is the companies in wars probably have too large of roster size preferences and too many starting workers on written contracts, and perhaps not enough starting funds. You may also consider having companies start with TV deals that they're "overqualified" for so they don't immediately lose their TV deals when they get knocked down to Cult. Also maybe companies with "unfriendly" products should have more starting income so they can survive with lower ad revenue. Maybe lower the number of writtens companies have in general so when they get kicked down they can release guys without eating a huge contract cost? I don't know.

Now if you want a "proper" idea of how to fix this that isn't general and has some specific guidelines in mind maybe look at the Cornellverse or some other mod that has a lot of national/regional feds where they don't all croak after 10 years. But I really do think the problem is at the company level and not the worker level here.

Also logical! I've tried not to go TOO nuts with big roster size preferences since 2020 feds already run way more bloat than in 2016. Will ponder the contracts, although I think when I was doing more opens, the AI would sign most/all of them to writtens anyway.

In the meantime I ran a five year funsies sim with only Japan enabled, meaning that RotJ/GoT/BR/any AI feds could (had to) pretty much go nuts importing all the orphaned real wrestlers.

So I think the AI will tend to bulk up their roster with writtens if they can, but also leave the guys they have on PPA unless there's a reason to upgrade them and also use those guys to consider their roster cap preference and release the PPA guys first

So like for instance if a company favors a roster of around 50 people and they start the game with 10 writtens and 35 PPA they'll fill the extra spots they want with writtens but won't necessarily upgrade their PPAs to written until their contract is up or a rival company guns for their guy

Again I'm not sure I haven't really played enough to be sure but this seems like the behavior I've noticed

Alternative idea

Do a few sims and watch how long it takes for company wars to kick companies down to cult

Try to time a lot of the undercarder writtens to end around that time so the losing companies have some less financially taxing releases they can make

I dunno, might work

Started a sim tracking sheet to tally if companies go bankrupt and when they fall to Medium if they started bigger. We'll see what I find- I know like UCA and B8WL rarely survive, and usually not all of the big wrestling companies do. Shoulda thought of this before the database got too big to run 5-year sims routinely, lol.
