Well I agree that students should be learning, this isn't going to be fair to teachers, who were spread thin long before Covid even hit. Too much of the burden of safety is put on them.

It's a lose lose situation because you can't send the children back to school, it's a virus fest, we saw that from the first school that tried to do this.

Secondly it's extremely time consuming and expensive for full time parents (who haven't lost their jobs) to monitor their children for online classes.

My little niece who's in first grade has to do roll call for 37 kids in their Zoom class and it takes an hour. One hour for every kid to mute their microphone and say "here" when their name is called. They do this once at the beginning, and once again after lunch break to make sure nobody is gone. This is every day. My sister of course has to monitor this because my niece is six and shouldn't be left home alone on a laptop. She's also a full time worker and single mom and it's impossible.

I want to say they should just cancel school for a semester or longer. But people need to progress. Like I said it's a lose lose crummy situation.

Closing things down doesnt make the virus disappear. Wearing masks doesn't make it disappear. A vaccine won't be 100 percent effective. We got to take all the necessary precautions and be safe as possible but learn to live with it.

Youre beyond ignorant if you dont realize that its not just a 0% or 100% thing. Youre suggesting opening while were seeing constant increases in deaths and infections right now and that waiting til we have lower numbers wouldnt make any difference........thats fucking stupid.

The need to reopen primarily depends on what constitutes a breaking point for a country's infrastructure. Ignoring that a more proper response way back when would have us in a much better situation than where we currently stand, there is a point where things would be worse off staying shut inside than just going out. I have no idea what that breaking point would be for the US, but it's unfortunately not as clear cut as people on either side of the issue want to make it.

I'm literally a teacher. 2 years ago I had an 8th grader stop showing up to school. Missed the last 40 or so days. He was close to 16 so they stop looking. Theres literally thousands of kids in my district that never logged into e learning. We don't know what happened to them.

Why are we ignoring those students and acting like they don't exist. School needs to be open in some capacity to help people like them.

folks believe there's no alternative to the way of life in the country. They're trying to keep society and life the way it is,was,ever will be.

Data supports children at less risk. The country tried to resume work. It's going I guess. Schools now need to follow so life can return for the most part.

Neither my brother nor his girlfriend have "work from home" jobs, so they want schools to open so they can work. They claim kids are basically immune. My brother thinks corona is the flu. I decided not to argue with them to save the relationship. But this is one perspective that's out there.

I think it's mostly that it's exhausting for parents to take care of their children all day. Not really a good excuse, but that's probably what it boils down to.

Thats also not happening. The issue here is keeping kids home is not a long term solution, and America has already utterly reached catastrophe. At this point any measures taken are just damage control as we lost our ability to stop this months ago. The key is find a healthy balance between home and school life which is what most schools have been trying to do.
