does it do a good job of engaging the player, or is it truly a borefest like many claim?

Hmm I'd put it in my top 50 games. I thought it was very fun. But the game is like 90% about delivering packages in increasingly difficult environments. And the challenge is just getting shit from point A to point B. And it's great imo.

But this game is hit or miss. I would say this have is worth full price, but if you hate it it's probably worth less than $18 lol.

I bought it a few weeks ago and I've sunk 40 hours into it already

A good chunk of that is just doing side stuff.

You'll either love it or hate it, but if you love it... hoo boy is it ever an experience.

Yeah, this have can be very addicting. Did you get the rain cover? My brother and I both didn't get that until post game <_<

I spent 65-70 hours in that game, my brother like 90-100. It can be weirdly addictive, especially if you want to get a lot of premium s ranks.

Kinda. The main stuff is usually going to new places outside of the chiral network (offline zones without other player structures), and the side stuff is more about doing things within the network. So forging a path in hostile terrain vs. using infrastructure to execute efficient deliveries.

Side stuff is important though because it's how you get new tech and upgrade it.

I didn't really enjoy my time with it (about 10 hours), but after playing some Ghost of Tsushima, I feel like continuing with it.

despite some stuff I wasn't feeling, at least DS feels unique, which isn't something you don't often see in an open-world title.

No lol. There's a guy that gives you a rain cover for your backpack that protects some of your stuff from time fall for a while lol. He's a prepper on the east side of the main map. The guy that collected Vitas and stuff lol. Idk what level he needs to be for it though.

Yes. I bought Death Stranding for the PS4 for $35 around Christmas last year and didn't feel like I lost out on that much money. Action and combat gameplay is similar to Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain but is a bit more clunky and generally not as good as it is limited in overall variety, and there isn't nearly as much action overall. The game is mainly a cinematic, terrain traversal / delivery simulator with fight or flight situations that require occasional close range and long range combat and light stealth elements as well. There are some online elements you can utilize and interact with to assist and be assisted by the community that are similar to the offerings of the Souls series(Demon's, Dark, Bloodborne, etc.), except there is no direct coop, or pvp / invasions. However, playing online makes the game a lot easier when it comes to traversal and I highly recommend that players always do so.

Anyway, It's a VERY Hideo Kojima experience, meaning the story is sometimes humorous, melodramatic, very odd and definitely confusing. The payoffs to his game are usually worth it in the end IMO, especially if you delve into the lore.

Also I personally didn't read any of the emails and data entries. I skimmed most of them, but my brother got really into them. Tbh the emails I read were mostly the ones where people have life updates lol.

Huh don't think I met the guy

I'm heading into the tar belt soon, which is a bit further East so that might be where he is.

I didn't meet that guy until post game either. Some of the preppers are well hidden and / or require certain side deliveries, etc. to become available.

He's in that big crag on the east side of the map, south of that big delivery station that's east of the wind farm. He's kind of a pain in the ass too get to lol, but nearly as bad as the late game preppers. If you're in the area look around for play station lost cargo. That'll send you to this guy.

edit: I would say I didn't do it post game. Right before the end game I got everybody into the network.

I played the hell out of it for awhile, got distracted by rpgmaker for a few months and now I just got back into it a couple days ago. I just added the geologist to the network. That was a hell of a mission to pull off after not playing for months.

I absolutely adore this game. For me its a very relaxing game. Pensive, with practical puzzles. And the occasional holy shit action packed action time which almost always hits you out of nowhere.

Although if I was going to know if its worth 18 bucks to you, Id at least need to know what other kinds of games you like.

it's a game that's going to click with or it won't. I would say try to get to chapter 3 as quickly as you can as the game opens up. It claims you can't go back, but that's a lie. I really wasn't enjoying it at all at the start, then the game opens up and it was a lot more fun.

But it is at it's core a walking simulator and there is no way to describe what the game is as actually sounding fun...it just somehow manages to be. Setting up your zipline network through the mountains is just satsifying. Building out and completing the roads from your network is just satisfying. Bola trapping a mule is just satisfying.

I can barely run the game such that I'm on lowest settings and resolution and after an hour of play my computer freezes

But I still boot it up now and then while saving for a new computer because it's weirdly addictive.

I'd call it experimental. It's not always a big winner, and the Decima engine's movement is a little stiffer than the game would've preferred. But climbing and descending altitudes is surprisingly engaging. And the more horizontal areas is fun as long as you TAKE CARE OF YOUR TRIKE. But I let mine sink into the river....

$18 is definitely in the give it a shot range.
