On the whole, it was more fun than Jurassic World. But it only has a 6/10 on IMDb. Barely a scratch better than JPIII.

I wonder if it's because of the clone or the politics. I can't be mad about the little girl. A rich person cloning a deceased loved one is 100% what would happen if clone technology were perfected. It's like getting mad at a movie for giving a rich guy a nice car or a trophy wife.

The politics... I kinda understand being annoyed at that. Ian Malcolm trips all over himself in the opening scene. A volcano is about to destroy the island full of dinosaurs and Ian Malcolm all but states that something -- be it God, nature, or "chaos" -- is about to correct humanity's mistake and wipe out the clone dinosaurs. When asked about it, he says God doesn't factor in the equation and then rambles aimlessly about global warming without using the term global warming.

Later on, Donald Trump gets eaten by a giant velociraptor while attempting to sell dinosaur bio-weapons to Russia. And his henchman uses the "nasty woman" quote. Of course, there's a little bit for the left to be pissed about as well. They censored Zia being a lesbian to appease Chinese censorship. And that... that's chaos.

The censorship annoyed me a little bit. I didn't mind seeing ersatz Donald become dino chow. But even I have to admit that Jurassic World 2 was maybe not the best film to get political with. Dinosaurs don't care where you stand on the issues. All humans are equally tasty.

this is obviously all spoilers...

i didn't like it because the premise was fucking stupid.

island filled with genetic monsters is about to go boom, so group of dumbasses funded by the same group of sleazy businessmen who have the strange idea that bioweapon monsters will beat missiles go and rescue a bunch of them.

stupid shit happens, they try to tug at your heart strings with blue and the monsters dying in the smoke, more random stupid shit, random blood transfusion, and then a "shocking revelation" about a new character that no one gives a fuck about...

blue fights the super monster, because of course. a cyanide gas leak happens, because when you design your kill system for the genetic monsters you keep in your mansion you're going to base it off a gas system that will kill indiscriminately... and everyone gets the feels so the pointless character releases all the monsters into the wilds of "random ass forest in north america".

and because the whole series is inconsistant as fuck, its impossible to tell how fucking stupid that was. did she just release a bunch of animals with fucked up metabolisms (plz remember leucine deficiency...) and reduced or null breeding ability? or have these monsters all "evolved" beyond those issues and will now fuck up all other animals? hell, will they just die hours after release because of the cyanide...

if you watch the link I posted, you know that they apparently evolved to survive in the wild. the video I posted is an official short film made by the studio, set after Fallen Kingdom, to set up the next movie

I really liked the first act - as annoying as the "dinosaur rights" chararacters we got proved to be, the ethical and moral discussion about what protections these man-made creatures should have is a natural progression of the overall plotline, and had a lot of potential, the opening with the watersaurus was excellent, and, well, we had our heroes exploring an exploding dinosaur island, which is just a cool premise in and of itself.

But rather than making this opening section the whole movie, which is clearly what they should have done, they wrapped it up far too fast, threw in a middle act that somehow saw all the humans and all the dinosaurs sitting around in cages while nothing at all happened, then just threw in a finale that felt more like a shit first draft of the Resi movie.

Then, for extra shits and giggles, they throw in a final scene that effectively just says "we have an idea for a better film next, sorry we didn't do that, guys..."

i did after i posted, and it was a continuation of the stupid. ignoring the fact that evolution doesn't work that way, its just another instance of dumb people making stupid decisions. like, who the fuck would go camping in the wilderness when its a known fact that giant fuck you monsters are around? and who would do this without the biggest guns you could own?

that crossbow scene was stupid and obvious by the way.

this just looks like they're gearing up for another movie that's big on action and small on comprehensible plot. for example, how long after the last movie does this short take place? are we looking at something 50+ years into the future? because for a tiny breeding population of animals that large you're going to have to move the movie decades forward in time for them to have spread like is inferred. either that or the monsters breed like rats and in that case there is no society because we're drowning in apex predators that see us as a snack...

you know what makes the first jurassic park movie good? its not the monsters, its not the setting, its not the action scenes, and its not even the characters. the the plot and story progression. they take the time to explain what the fuck is happening, why its happening, and why it all falls apart. hell, even lost world did that. but jurassic world and fallen kingdom? naah, they just drop in knockoff characters and hamfist the plot.
