There seems to always be a few rooms open for it on tabletop. What's the gameplay like?

It's pretty much like an SRPG, like FFT.

Its like D&D and its a card builder game. Ill say more when at my PC

• So everyone picks a character to use
• Each of them have their own deck
• You start with 6 of the cards [A Skills]
• Each card has a top and a bottom ability.
• Play 2 of your cards. You can use the top ability of one of them [Attack 3] and one of the bottom abilities [Move 2]. You can't play Top/Top or Bottom/Bottom

• So going back to the cards, I play Attack 3 and Move 2. So I move up 2 and attack an enemy for 3, but you also get Enhancer cards that give you bonuses or negative things. So I draw the top one and add it [+1] so now I'm doing 4 damage. The one I just hit had 5 HP
• Like in any typical RPG you have a turn order. Monsters move and attack as well
• There are conditions as well like Knocked down, Confused, Blind, ect that give you certain bonuses
• The game is meant to be played over many days and not just once
• Once we finished out first mission thing, then I got to add 2 new cards [B Skills] to my 6 card deck that replaced 2 [A Skills] other ones

I've had it since my birthday last year. Haven't had any good chance to play though and going solo with 2 characters is nice in theory but set up for one is just kinda... A hassle.

I mean, you don't have to play over multiple days. It's just that it comes with 25 Missions and we played for about 90mins and only played one of them. But that was mostly trying to learn how to play

Jaws of the Lion is like a tutorial for the game. And, correct me if Im wrong, but you dont build your maps with stuff here, all the maps are in the book. I think I heard someone say in the main game you have to Construct the dungeon yourself

I got the full game when it was last featured on Kickstarter, and I just completed the final story mission about a month ago. It is an amazing board game.

I also got Jaws of the Lion when it came out, but I have not played it yet. Jaws of the Lion is intended to be a way to introduce people to Gloomhaven, and, from everything I've heard, it does a fantastic job of that. Plus, it has over 20 full fledged missions to do after you get through the first five or so tutorial type missions.

It also includes four new characters that can be used in standard Gloomhaven. The maps and overall scale of the game are the only things really sort of dumbed down for Jaws. In Gloomhaven you have tiles to build maps; whereas, Jaws of the Lion has a book with all of the maps printed in it.

It is definitely my favorite board game. I played through mostly solo or two players.

Make sure you get the Insert for it, its about 80 bucks but the amount of time you will save with set up is huge. I played one session without the insert and went out and bought it the next day. Even having everything separated into bags sifting through the giant box for monster cards and stuff is a hassle

I've been playing the board game with 2 friends over tabletop sim for the past few months. It's a lot of fun.

It has a few rough edges here and there, like rules that just plain suck or are really not fun (we kinda made small houserule changes to these) and a handful of places where the official rulebook is not detailed enough for the situation but thankfully there's a gigantic FAQ online for more niche situations. But overall it's good enough we've been playing a scenario almost every day and none of us are burnt out on it at all

Hmm. Gameplay seems interesting enough, but I'm not too keen on playing over multiple days.

Sessions are done in a single day, the multiple days is things changing after each mission. New areas open up and new missions are available

The expansion for Gloomhaven is called Forgotten Circles. Then they just recently had a Kickstarter for a sequel game called Frosthaven.

Forgotten Circles adds a new class and extra enemies and things to do in Gloomhaven after you complete the main story arc.

Frosthaven is a totally new campaign with all new classes and enemies and the like. I backed it, so my goal is now to finish Forgotten Circles and Jaws of the Lion before Frosthaven arrives.

Gloomhaven is absolutely my favorite board game. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get a consistent group together to play it regularly. Not that anyone is getting a weekly group together right now. Its pretty depressing to have a big shelf full of board games that never get played.
