The problem is the guys are not nearly making enough to justify your delivery. The best option would probably doing a flat $10 rate for deliveries and 15 dollars for longer deliveries with 90 percent going to the driver.

Probably because non-tippers are actively screwing over the employee who's pay is built around getting tips.

Don't get me wrong I don't like tipping or tipping culture either. But my not tipping isn't sticking it to tipping culture or the business, it just screws over the employee. So I tip or I don't use services that require tips.

Been "dashing" for 45 minutes now. Had one delivery that paid a grand total of $4 (no tip). Been back sitting at the "hotspot" for 20 minutes now and haven't had another order. This shit definitely isn't worth it so far. Hopefully the hotbag and red card will make things better.

DoorDash had said the system kept workers pay consistent when customers tipped little or nothing.

For example, if DoorDash guaranteed a worker $7 for a delivery and a customer did not tip, DoorDash would directly pay the worker $7.
But if the customer tipped $3 via the app, DoorDash would directly pay the worker only $4, then add on the $3 tip so that the worker would still get only $7.

tipping when they show up is a risk, because you risk not having your order accepted or them dicking around and not getting it to you quicky. there's no indication that you're gonna tip on delivery in the app

oh and there's also the fact that the driver would deliberately fuck up your order, since they're the ones placing the order for you

When they fuck my order up i complain and get another order free. They gave me $10 credit for one messed up order as well.

Couple tips I can share, from personal experience and combing through Reddit:

• Dont be afraid to decline orders. Customer and Completion Rate are the metrics you need to keep high or risk getting deactivated. You could have close to a 0% AR though and it wont negatively impact you at all, from what I understand.
• Set a minimum threshold for what you will accept. In general, I wont take anything less than $7, or anything less than $1/mile. This will help weed out the shitty orders where people arent tipping. Its possible people will add tip after the fact, but from experience I can say its not likely and nothing you should ever bank on.
• Hot spots are pretty garbage. Its better to just be aware of where there are a large concentration of restaurants that use DD and wait around there. In theory that is supposed to be what the hotspots are, but in actuality Ive found there is little to no correlation between what DD is saying is hot vs what actually is in my area.

I can probably share more, but its helpful to know these when starting out. I was accepting everything at first and that is definitely not the way to go. I have received some insane orders (like $12 for 30+ miles) that I would instantly decline now, but would have probably taken at first.

Of course, things vary from region to region anyway, so just keep at it and start to get in a groove.

We get 100% of the tip. Didnt used to be that way (before I started), but they changed that due to backlash.

Cash tips are totally fine and acceptable as well. Id say more so than tips within the app since they wouldnt get reported for taxes. I dont mind handling cash though, so maybe thats not how everyone feels. The risk of this, however, is that the order will appear to have a low value so you run the chance of your order not getting accepted, or at a minimum delayed, by Dashers declining the order due to it appearing to be low and with no tip.

DD is fucking wack because they jack up the price of the food in addition to charging a fee. i'd be fine with just a flat fee (like $5/order), but fuck them increasing the price of the food like 20% on top of the fee.

I typically tip anywhere from 4-10 dollars depending on the cost of the order and the distance involved.

If you can't afford a tip then maybe you should't be using the service. Yes there are lots of fees, but don't take out your frustration on the drivers by not tipping them.

Do you often do multiple order pick up's at once and then deliver them to their customers? It's the only way I can see it possible to make above minimum wage doing this. Doing just 1 call at a time leads to get fuck all pretty much.

Ive only had 2 instances of multiple orders. So for me at least, its been pretty infrequent. It sounds like people doing this for their primary income try to multi app, so basically keep DD, GrubHub, and UberEats live at all times, then pause the other apps when a delivery comes through for one of em. I dont bother yet with that since I really just do it part time.

Another point is that I primarily do late night, so 10pm-2am, so the order frequency is quite a bit lower than peak lunch and dinner time, so that could be why I dont get many multi-orders.

I was told by both DoorDash support and individual restaurants it's the driver who calls the orders into the restaurant so if they misread the app either intentionally or unintentionally, your order is gonna get screwed up. despite having the default tip or higher, I've noticed things like drinks missing, side items, wrong toppings, etc. and it's not on the ticket on the bag despite being on my order summary on the app

but this is the US and not Canada too

I tried signing up with Skip the Dishes first but they aren't accepting drivers in my area. I'll check out grubhub and ubereats though.

I did Doordash for a short time a couple of months back in the beginning of the pandemic and I always passed on the no tippers

Im guessing there have to be some differences in the app from the US to Canada, but suppose I could be wrong.

Damn. The pizza hut here pays drivers minimum wage plus 30-80 bucks in tips daily, because of how busy it is. From what I hear, it's better than being a cook or a manager, even with less hours.

This is something that should be stopped. The corporation rakes in the profit and the only way the driver (the person doing all the work) gets paid is if the customers are generous. Most of these services already charge an unbelievable amount, so most people see $35 for fast food and assume that that cost covers the company paying the drivers. Same with all of those Uber services.
