my favorite games include KOTOR, New Vegas, Fallout 3. Is this a similar thing? Too dated?

i played it like 10 years ago and it felt a _little_ dated. but the role playing is top notch. definitely recommended, but make sure you get the fan patch that fixes a lot of bugs/issues

Out of the box it's ok, not great (it suffered a lot at the time for using a 3/4 finished version of the Half-life 2 engine) but with the pretty big community patch to restore cut content and smooth some things out it's a decent game.

it's legit. but keep in mind you're a talky vampire in a small, hidden vampire world.

i think the biggest difference between it and the games you mentioned is world size. you won't be traveling through different worlds and expansive territory. as long as you don't expect that, you're golden.

The community patch is required. Overall it's a bit janky but really well done. Definitely worth a play.

Different. If I was a different kind of gamer I could easily see myself being enthralled by it, but it just wasn't what I was looking for tbh.

Also, don't pick Nosferatu or Malkavian for your first clan. Both play extremely differently than the rest in a confusing way you won't enjoy the first time through.

It's extremely simple to install the fan patch. You just run it like an installer once the game is already installed. Don't worry about other mods to start.

I would also highly recommend reading a quick guide on the skill system. White Wolf uses a pretty different system compared to a lot of RPGs, and skill points are both valuable and rare so you're going to want to do a tiny bit of planning in terms of what sort of character you want. I can't remember if the fan patch adds a way to reset your stats, but every point you add in a skill can have a significant impact so you don't want to just go in picking things randomly.

Oh and yeah it's a lot different than Fallout. Still kind of open world but in much smaller maps. The skill system is more convoluted just because it's based off of a pen and paper RPG with way more traits but if you focus on your clan's (class) areas of expertise you are generally pretty good.

It's a great game with some major flaws like the Sewer section

In fact all the combat sucks

But the writing and custimization is fun.

Mods are fantastic too but sadly the official patch made most of them not work
