Cocytus 07/29/20 11:02:14 AM #34:	DuranOfForcena posted... my dad's a good old boy from Texas, and he voted for Trump because he fell for all the shit about how what we need is someone who is not a politician but a businessman who will run the country like a business and get the economy back up and running and all that shit. and, not that he'd admit it, but also because Trump's a racist and he's a racist and he feels empowered like all the racists do when he sees Trump spewing his hateful rhetoric, and he takes that as "permission" for him to also spew his hateful rhetoric unapologetically. but he says he's not going to vote for Trump again and that he doesn't support him anymore. what was the breaking point, you ask? was it the bungled handling of the pandemic and the 100,000+ lives lost because of that? no. was it because he realized that Trump was lying about basically everything he says and that he has not done anything to actually improve the economy, and in all likelihood set it back to a point where it will take years to foster healthy diplomatic and international economic relations again when someone who actually knows what the fuck they were doing gets into office? nope, not that either. it was Trump's handling of the BLM protests and the protests surrounding the death of George Floyd. specifically, Trump's actions of throwing more gasoline on the fire and causing things to escalate even further than they would have if he had shown any sympathy or understanding or made any concessions. but hey, isn't that a good thing, then, wouldn't you think? my dad doesn't want to see race riots and he doesn't want a president who will do nothing but make race riots worse? could it be because he understands the plight of what black people are going through in today's society and is learning to show sympathy for them despite a lifetime of being a racist good old boy from Texas? lolno. it was the breaking point for him because he believes it will lead to a race war, and that race war will lead to the loss of life of white people. that's literally his only reasoning. he doesn't want to see white people get killed in a race war against black people. and he's certain that that's what Trump is going to drive us toward. he doesn't give a fuck if black people die, but if there was a race war, white people would die too, and that he can't abide. so yeah. that's my pops for ya. Sounds reasonable to me. I guess we can't help if we get duped by politicians sometimes. Hell I voted for Ross Perot in 92, still don't know why.
