She was the last remaining movie star from the golden age of Hollywood, and was probably best known for her role as Melanie Hamilton in Gone with the Wind. Especially when most actors and actresses from her era died in their 60s. Usually poor, alone, and unmourned in a nursing home somewhere, after a last few bitter decades of life.
