A user here told me he's "Oprah for bros" or something. In that case, what is the appeal of Oprah?

But anyway isn't Rogan's show just him getting high, coming up with wild theories, watching youtube, and asking some questions to whomever he's with?

People who watch, what do you get out of it specifically? This is not a judgment thread

Ive watched a handful of his shows. They can be entertaining if the right guest(s) are on. Joes pretty personable. I actually quite enjoyed the Alex Jones ones but Ive always liked hearing people talk about their whacky theories when it comes to metaphysical stuff. Oh and the Graham Hancock one is fun too.

Its a talk show. He brings on a wide range of guests from the alt right to Bernie Sanders. He is alt right with the alt right guests and is Liberal with Democrat guests. That is his appeal he agrees with the guest he brings on so he appeals to both sides.

Yeah I liked the Sanders one because it was a nice 1-hour synthesis of his views. Not too short like the snippets we got at debates and such, but short enough to remain concise. You might check that one out, TC, its mostly Bernie talking anyway with a smattering of questions here and there from Rogan.

He's handsome, but not too much so. He has a good voice. He fits a general mold of "alpha white male" that society finds itself attracted to: some want to be him, some just want him.

He's also well-off, and has no qualms about any of his personal vices, and indeed seems to have the freedom to just sit around and talk to people for hours. That kind of freedom of self is also quite attractive.

He has a massive amount of content and is committed to constantly continuing the podcast, so even if that initial attraction doesn't work, he is just so constant and so intent on making himself part of the discussion that it's almost impossible to avoid him.

He also stands, on his own, for very little. A lot of people claim he's "moderate" or "apolitical", and for a country that is has been repeatedly taught to distrust its own government for the last fifty years, that "neutrality" can be attractive as well.

Oh sure his guests might have strong opinions, but more often than not he's mostly content to let them go on and maybe interject a question every once in a while rather than offer up his own opinion. That's not to say he never does have his own opinion on things, but then we get back to the massive amount of content, so even if you wanted to try to track his personal beliefs holistically, you have to be committed to consuming a TON of content to do so.

So for people who don't follow him regularly, most of their opinions of him are focused around a few bites, which doesn't get the entire picture, and fans of the show will call out people who aren't fans of the show for criticizing him, and they will have the power in those arguments, because they'll "know" Rogan better than someone calling out a five-minute clip. And they would most often be right to do so.

And that is what JRE is these days: it's not about Rogan himself. It's about the machine of the podcast and its ability to keep its listeners. It's capitalist, first and foremost.

This covers Rogan's appeal pretty thoroughly, imo. But maybe even more fundamental than that, Rogan is simply a good host and comedian-- the two most essential skills that all the most successful streamers / podcasters possess.

Also, he's a neutral template of the friend that many guys wish they could hang out with. For some people, the act of watching our favorite stream / show fills a void of friendship that opens up when we become adults, move away from the people we grew up with and become preoccupied with work and marriage. Rogan offers a persistent, one-way "friendship" that will always be there for you when you have time to tune in.

He's probably got the best guests in the history of talk shows. He's real good at interviewing at a very simple level so if you're new to the person/topic it's good entry level stuff.

On personal level I don't really like the arrogance and pseudo-intellectualism and quite frankly his comedy sucks. Other than that, he's an alright dude. Everyone has their faults.

Hes a moderate liberal politically, the Democrat party has just been going so far left people want to label him as right. Just because he gives right leaning commentators a venue to speak and doesnt shout them down like youd expect from an MSNBC host doesnt mean he agrees with everything theyre saying. He just understands that there are folks out there who want to hear what varying guests say. Its called diversity of thought and thats how hes been successful imo.

I don't know if I'd call him a "good comedian", but he's certainly got charisma, and yes, that is fundamental to it.

Likability can easily outpace a lack of talent or skill.

Hes a badass dude you could drink a beer and smoke with and have a great night. While he also has a cool resume with Newsradio and Fear Factor (great shows) and hes almost as associated with the UFC as Dana White.

His guests are cool and he gets a different side out of people than you would see on a network interview. Like his Edward Snowden interview, it was incredible, because as someone said. He knows when to shut up and just let people talk, and he asks good questions because hes sincerely curious about so many areas in life.

Hes fair and open, a great person , and i love him.

Where else do you get to listen to an "Everyday Joe" shoot the breeze with physicists, politicians, actors, comedians and people all over the spectrum? You learn a lot from his conversations as he's not an expert on the topics he covers so you get a good deal grounding with him from the people he speaks to.

I don't think he's one of the greats, but Rogan has had a pretty respectable career in stand-up. When you have hours upon hours of airtime to fill, a background in comedy is helpful. He doesn't bring meticulously-prepared, pre-written sets to his podcast like his guests do, but he's funny enough to buoy his interviews with a little bit of levity.

He's a very good "interviewer". I put that in quotations cause it's usually more of a cross between and casual conversation and an interview.

But he's usually very good at being able to control himself and shut up while his guests get their thoughts out without interrupting them. Which is a very rare quality

I can agree with this. Eddie bravo is crazy. Which, like talking to most conspiracy obsessive people, is funny for awhile but quickly becomes annoying. Brendan's an idiot and Brian has his head shoved so far up his ass because he loves the smell of his own darts he's hard to take seriously.

But hey, we all have annoying friends. He just broadcasts his. I'd be mortified if you telecasted some of the dumb shit I've heard my friends say before.
