Why do we wanna cancel paw patrol (whatever that is)

It's a kids show with puppies in different careers. Some people were arguing that it should be cancelled because one of the puppies is a police officer and therefore it shows police in a positive light. The whole controversy is mostly stupid people arguing with stupid people about nonsense that doesn't matter.

Well the press secretary certainly is, but I don't think that's a controversial opinion. And while conservative media may have blown the story out of proportion, they most certainly didn't invent it in the first place. It was a story from the New York Times that kicked off this whole drama.

Paw Patrol is a childrens cartoon about a squad of canine helpers. It is basically a pretense for placing household pets in a variety of cool trucks. The team includes Marshall, a firefighting Dalmatian; Rubble, a bulldog construction worker; and Chase, a German shepherd who is also a cop. In the world of Paw Patrol, Chase is drawn to be a very good boy who barks stuff like Chase is on the case! and All in a police pups day! as he rescues kittens in his tricked-out S.U.V.

But last week, when the shows official Twitter account put out a bland call for Black voices to be heard, commenters came after Chase. Euthanize the police dog, they said. Defund the paw patrol. All dogs go to heaven, except the class traitors in the Paw Patrol.

Its a joke, but its also not. As the protests against racist police violence enter their third week, the charges are mounting against fictional cops, too. Even big-hearted cartoon police dogs or maybe especially big-hearted cartoon police dogs are on notice. The effort to publicize police brutality also means banishing the good-cop archetype, which reigns on both television and in viral videos of the protests themselves. Paw Patrol seems harmless enough, and thats the point: The movement rests on understanding that cops do plenty of harm.

Keep in mind all these rumors started circulating not long after cops and a few other shows were cancelled specifically for showing police in a positive light. So it's not like the rumors began in a vacuum, either.

Keep in mind all these rumors started circulating not long after cops and a few other shows were cancelled specifically for showing police in a positive light. So it's not like the rumors began in a vacuum, either.

Seems to be the case

As far as we can tell, earnest calls to have Paw Patrol canceled due to its portrayal of police officers have been few and far between. While the vast majority of the posts calling for the cancellation of Paw Patrol were made in jest, they were prompted by a genuine conversation concerning the impact of how police officers are portrayed in television and movies.

I just think one side reexamining an old TV/Movie character type and the other side falsely claiming a show was being cancelled upon reading that examination doesn't qualify as "stupid people arguing with stupid people" especially since one side wasnt arguing to begin with
