I could see it being significantly easier for it to be handled well in Italy than USA.

Italy didn't really handle it well, but they did eventually quash it, without having a majority of their citizens get the virus.

The death rate in Italy was pretty horrid though.

We have more total deaths so far in the US, but a WAY smaller % compared to the number of cases (currently).

IF numbers keep raising though and hospitals fill up, that could easily change, and we may be past a point of easily containing it already.

Italy ended up witha 14.4% of people who tested positive with the virus dying.

If the us ends up with a similar number and it breaks out and is totally uncrolled, we could end up with million of deaths pretty easy. We are already going to be the non-third world nation with the most deaths almost certainly.

Are you implying that a method that works for one country might not work on one thirty-seven times bigger and seventy-one times more populated?

Most of Canada has done fairly well. It hasn't been perfect, but most provinces closed their borders and took an aggressive approach to keeping cases down before their case numbers got really bad. But then that's mostly a function of population density; Ontario and Quebec have still been fairly bad (Quebec also really hasn't been doing much to control it, resulting in them being the worst).
