Yeah it is pretty disgusting and just shows how greedy republicans and conservatives are there are plenty of people who are still working so we can temporarily raise taxes on them to help the people who are not working maintain their current income. It is called sharing and being a decent human being if I still had the privilege of employment I would glady share my income with unemployed people especially when you take into account the fact that minorities and LGBTQ+ people are the ones who were hit the hardest.

Nobody cares about losing that much money!?

Its speculation right now. I'm waiting for the bill to pass before making judgement. The Dems have to counter offer. GOP can't do this alone. Same with Dems. It requires both to agree. Which means nothing will get done quick.

Everyone knows you need less money to pay your bills when you lose your job. This just weeds out the lazy parasites from the legitimate hard workers motivated to find new jobs!

Isn't standard unemployment like 2/3rds of regular income, so they are only raising it by 4%? Or am I missing something.

I just hope they throw a bonus to everyone that has been working this entire time and didn't get crazy huge paychecks for staying home. >_>

Everyone knows that you should be paid twice the salary of your colleagues who are actually working, actually putting themselves and their families at risk, and actually paying the taxes so you can sit on your ass and shitpost on gamefaqs.gamespot.com. It's just common sense.

70% is actually a decent amount. Cut back your expenses. Trim the cable bill, dont order take out. Sorry, but the people not working should not be making MORE than the ones that are.

I love ice when people take one part of an argument and not be entire thing.

Cut your expenses surely you have more than just cable.

So many people wanting handouts. Why should the government give you the same amount or more than you made when you were working?

By not working you are now saving on your commute costs, if you are doing as you are supposed to be you are staying home. Dont order out, cook and eat in. Youre saving in laundry costs not having to wash clothes for work. There are countless ways to save to make up a deficit.

When out out of work the idea is to make it through the tough times not necessarily, to maintain the same standard of living. Youre going to have to sacrifice.

The additional UI payments stimulate the economy and thereby support employment in other sectors

Right now, poor people have essentially unchanged spending habits, because the stimulus payments and UI made up for lost income

The reason we're seeing such a drop in economic activity is that rich people are not spending as much, because leisure activities are severely limited in the 'in-person' sector of the economy which they spend more as a share of their income on than the poor

Making poor people incapable of paying for necessities isn't just bad for them, it would further wreck the economy

Yep. You have no idea how brain-washed many of our citizens are. The right are sheep to big corporations and hate the lower class. 99% of them will never be corporate multi-millionaires, so I don't get it.

Generally speaking, the point is about 50% across the table.

The thing is, many states are capped at very low amounts, so 50% is only seen at lower levels. If you're making way more than than the cap, you could be getting as low as a few percent.

I think the cleanest way to do this is to just double the state amount, so a lot will end up at 100% at the very least, with many high earners around the 70%.

No, that's what the republicans are saying, but a bill hasn't been passed yet. I still think they'll either fail to pass anything before congress goes into recess or they'll settle around 400.

The wage replacement ratio of UI varies by state, but 50% is on the high end for sure.

Used the data here: https://oui.doleta.gov/unemploy/ui_replacement_rates.asp

Used q1 2019 numbers. They estimate the ratio two ways, a high and a low, so I averaged their two averages
