Haven't played in a few months now, two new set of cards is out now. So what are the synergies and things to watch out for

What deck are you playing, and what rank? Wildernress Rec is still top tier, and Bant (and other) ramp feat. Big Ugin is stupidly dominant. More room for jank in Historic for su re.

I play a lot of decks. Currently playing a R/B deck that uses that Bird get gets bigger with damage, the 1/1 Haste guy that gets bigger with damage to the player, Hijack and Toss, the wall that pings for 1 damage. This new card that lets me put monsters from my Graveyard in top of my deck. Other cards as well. Thats the one Im doing the best with.

yeah, I need to learn about mutations. I hate trying to figure stuff out in the middle of a game since some of people use long ass combos that take forever

Well Jumpstart is a new thing that is really good for casual players. And more hardcore players too actually.

You get to pick a theme from 3 different options, and then pick one from 3 more options. Then you take the two you picked and shuffle them together into one 40 card deck to play. You get to keep all the cards, plus you get an extra rare for each of your first two wins. You can play with that deck as much as you want, and resign whenever you want to get a new deck with new cards.

Each time you resign and start over you can get 2 more random rares along with your new deck.

And each theme has a special basic land art that only exists for that theme. Like there is a Phyrexian theme that has a swamp that has the name and types written in Phyrexian.
And the dog theme has a plains with a nice flowery field and a dog laying in it.

It costs 2000 gold for each entry, which is pretty fair because it is the price of 2 packs worth of cards for the 2 different themes you pick, plus the 2 extra random rares.

I'm trying to do it until I collect all the special lands because I love using cool thematic lands that fit my deck.

The whole thing exists in paper magic too and is getting pretty successful. It is designed as a simpler and faster way to introduce people to a drafting style event that is easier to start and understand.

Yeah, jumpstart is all playable in historic though. And there are a decent amount of the m21 core set cards in jumpstart too.

But really for a casual player historic seems to be more fun and varied than standard anyway. Plus standard rotates in a couple months, so any deck that is really good now might not exist with all of the same cards anymore.

True but M21 will be legal for some time. And amassing enough wildcards to make a competitive historic deck for a new or re-new player is going to be a huge time and money sink

It just depends in how you like to play. If you are focused on being competitive in constructive, then yah. But it is really easy to make one of the strong decks that wins fast that doesn't need a lot of wildcards to finish quests when you wanna be hardcore, and then build just whatever seems fun, or do drafts the rest of the time.

For me the game is all about drafting. It let's me use almost all the cards in each set, and each set offers a fun new metagame to work on.

Being super competitive with constructed gets old when everyone always has to play the best decks to have a chance.

In paper at Friday night magic events, since the best cards are so expensive people will play a bigger variety of decks for fun. But on arena when anyone can build the best decks with wildcards, people feel pressured to always do the most optimal thing.

Draft let's you have a nice mix of competitive play with a lot of skill involved, while also giving a larger variety of decks and testing your on the fly deck building.

Hey OP, if you're interested in sitting on about a dozen codes for MtG Arena... I buy a bunch of pre-made decks every now and again, many come with a code that put that deck into Arena.

If you want them let me know and I'll PM them to you, as I don't plan to ever play it.

Nice! Yah draft is the best way to build a large collection if you plan on playing for a long time. So it is funny to me that since I draft so much and don't play much constructed that I have 54 rare wildcards and like 29 mythic wildcards on my main account, and don't really have much use for them. I end up getting most of the cards with every set anyway just from drafting so it doesnt matter too much.

There are a good amount of free to play players that can end up with 4 of every rare in the set just from drafting carefully.

And then after that week is over Dominaria will be available for Premier draft for 2 weeks! Dominaria is largely considered one of the best draft environments ever, so it should be pretty fun.

And then on top of that, Amonkhet Remastered is coming out next month later in the month too. It is going to be draftable and have a sealed event, and all the cards will be playable for historic.

oh fuck yes, Dominaria was fun as hell to draft, you could do so many jank things in it

Eldraine draft was litty too, I built a UR trebuchet control using these goblin knights and two emry with thrill of possibilty and that UR draw two make a 1/1 flyer AND i had Embercleave lol

Yeah, sure. The only money I have spent on Arena was at the very start of it and it was a good deal for like $12. Now I just get my daily gold and when a new set comes out, I just buy like 20 packs, save about 10K gold, and then save until the next set comes out.

Then I'll just use my Wild Cards to fill in what I may need

Just play something that skips mana costs or ramps beyond all reasoning. Really the only play style atm if you want to be competitive.

I would say G or R is mandatory for most shit at the moment.

I missed a couple of these sets, that's awesome. I literally only draft except when I want gold sometimes

I got to diamond during ikoria but I'm stuck in platinum on m21. Just too aggro in bo1 for me

Nice! You could try adding in some witch's oven, claim the firstborn, cauldron familiar, make it a lil closer to a traditional Rakdos deck atm, and those are all at common or uncommon.

The goal is to end it by turn 5, lol

Build my creatures up, throw 'em, bring them back to life if I have to.

Let's see what those cards do -

Witches Oven - This really only works for me when I take their shit with Act of Treason, and throwing them either at their face or another creatures is more of my goal with Act of Treason

Claim The First Born - Yeah, this can be a great card. Thanks for pointing it out. One of the biggest issues I face is someone placing a Creature down each turn preventing me from getting my Dreadhoard Butcher from getting going.

cauldron familiar - Oh, okay, now I see the combo you want me to use with Witches Oven. I'm not really about that with this deck, I don't want to draw it out, I need to end if a quickly as possible before they get Mana to use.

Fair enough, but no problem! CTFB also works nicely with Oven just like Act does; steal their creature, smack face, sac it before it goes back to them.

Ill have to look up a real version of that Deck you said. Thats an issue of mine, I know the names of pretty much nothing in this game, so I get so lost listening to people talk about good things to do

Sorry for the delay, I worked over yesterday and kinda crashed afterward, then went straight back when I woke up.

I sent 2 codes (Garruk and Basura), I was positive I had them all together in my token box but that doesn't seem to be the case :/

They're definitely here somewhere in these card boxes, I'll send you the rest later today (I'm overdue for reorganizing them anyway).

Newb here(started only last week-ish), tagging topic for potential MTGA discussion, posted a question on the game's own board but not getting any answers there, so might as well ask here too.

How do you draft well in this? Any useful pointers on what strategies to use in anticipation of the bot matches? Did a draft yesterday and got blasted with zero wins.

Also, how do you beat mutate decks? My win rate is pretty bad already, sure, but mutate decks are basically a death sentence to me at this point.
