i live in midtown atlanta. it's a pretty cool area, lots of development happening so it'll be even more popping a few years down the road. basically anywhere around midtown/west midtown/buckhead is pretty trendy and fun to live in.

If you get outside the city towards Gwinnett County you can find some really good value on homes and the areas are really nice, but way, WAY less diverse.

other than that i highly recommend avoiding anything more than like an hour outside of Atlanta if you're looking for diversity/tolerance

Stay away from Atlanta, find a low populated suburb and there are some parts that aren't bad for some good prices on housing and rentals.

Atlanta is diverse pretty much everywhere. However if you're considering factors that actually matter, there's also low taxes and a low cost of living for a city that size, Lots of different types of jobs for all levels, a booming tech center and a popular filming location for popular TV shows and movies (Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, Infinity War, and many others), and of course the weather is nice most of the year.

Also looking for nicer cities to live nearby with low cost homes and was recommended to check out Marietta or Alpharetta. I saw other closer cities like decur but it seems like one of the dangerous cities to not want to live in.

You want East Atlanta or Midtown if you actually want to live in the city, rest of it is not great, Marietta is nice but stupid expensive its all McMansions.

I would check out the Vinings area, if I were you.

And no way you're getting to Atlanta in 20 minutes from Marietta or Alpharetta, unless you're working odd hours.

Outside of the Atlanta Metro the diversity in the north of the state is like 95% white

In the south of the state its more diverse but somehow more redneck so take your pick.

The traffic is terrible. Alpharetta is nice, but it will take you ages to get downtown. Try Buckhead.

Good luck with that. Marietta and Alpharetta would be the worst if thats your goal. Traffic on 400 and 285 is ass. Most commutes in Atlanta are gonna be more than 20 minutes if you plan on driving.

I lived in Tucker which is northeast, just outside the perimeter/285 for 5 years... nice generally quiet neighborhood that was pretty diverse (African American, Greek, Korean, Indian, etc). But even though my office was theoretically only a ten minute drive, it could easily be twenty five minutes plus depending on time of day.
