Several months ago, I got laid off from my job. Due to lots of stuff going on in the world and my wife being pregnant and getting 100% medical coverage through the state, I decided to enjoy the unemployment for a while; have some fun, do some schooling, and be around to help my wife through her pregnancy and everything. Part of getting unemployment though meant I had to apply for jobs. Despite trying to apply for jobs I figured I'd never get interviews for, I ended up getting a lot of interviews. I decide to go into these interviews as a bit of a know it all asshole who nobody would want to work with. Even called myself lazy in the interviews. Even despite this, I somehow managed to land a fully remote fairly comfortable software engineer job.

I'm not really complaining that I got a job since I guess I would need one eventually, but I wish I could have put it off until fall.

Literally been telling my friend on unemployment to apply for a bunch of jobs he normally wouldn't think he could get, worst case you doesn't, best case, he does.

Not a accident as you attended the interview. I'm confused why you went to the interview if you didn't want the job.... unless you actually wanted the job and this is all a hoax.

Right now in the US they are giving people without jobs $860 a week or so. Alot of people dont' want jobs till the end of July when that ends. I would imagine quite a few will suddenly be looking for jobs about now (since it'll take a few weeks to start probably.

It's a GREAT time to actually look for a job that you wouldn't normally think you could get, a higher paying job, or a job that is in more demand that you would really enjoy etc. IF the stupid virus hadn't decided to power up in the US, this would have been a good opportunity for many people, and might have also forced min wage jobs to re-evaluate how much they offer (since many people who made min wage before have just gotten 2 years worth of wages in 6 months).

Perhaps...maybe....we could start to have an employees market again, instead of having all the power be with the employers and landlords like it has been pretty much my whole life. Don't think the housing/rental problem would get fixed, but at least if most people doing grunt/crap jobs (which are about 40% of them) refused to work for a year, they would have to offer more money and more incentives to get people to do them, or automate them I guess.

My unemployment paid me 1390 a week. In order to get that though you need to apply to jobs and follow through with employers. So you have to take the interviews you get or you risk losing unemployment.

How do they even know you got a interview? What proof do you provide? All we do over here is show the jobs we have applied for view our emails. I have a folder for those jobs so they don't get to see my personal emails. At the moment though we don't even do that due to the pandemic and not having face to face meetings.

In Washington they have you submit contract info for everything and they do check
