Agreed. It takes like 15 seconds of bare minimum effort to return the cart, but it helps make the cart retriever person's job easier and helps keep the lot safer.

The shopping cart dilemma is similar to the "picking up your dog's crap in the park" dilemma. Except in the most dire of situations, if you don't do it then it pretty much shows who you are as a person.

If youre familiar with Kohlbergs stages of moral development, I would say it gets at the distinction between pre-conventional moral reasoning (moral decisions are egocentric and made based on whether they will personally be punished or rewarded in some way) and conventional moral reasoning (moral decisions are informed by societys laws, rules, and expectations and there is an understanding that obedience and maintaining standards of behavior are necessary to have a functional society)

I would say its a bit of a stretch to say you can fully self-govern (whatever is meant by that) operating solely at the conventional level, as it is at the post-conventional level that one has more of the capacity to evaluate rules and whether they are just, appropriate, and practical, and able to better develop, modify, and adapt the rules to given circumstances or changing situations.

I've been on a cart narc kick recently and watching all their videos. Some people just get violent when confronted:

And I always return my cart, no exceptions.

Yeah, I see that a lot, as some one whose job it is to collect the things. But a good many people just leave them in random parking spaces.
The worst people are the ones who leave random trash behind. I'm talking fast food leftovers, used tissues(especially gross and dangerous given current conditions), etc. etc.
Though the most random was literal bags of grass clippings. Just...why?

There is a few times I left them at Walmart because the one here has them like miles apart, while Kroger's has them reasonably placed. I usually still take the extra trip regardless, but sometimes it's like the Walmart parking lot is giving me the middle finger. Even then, I put them places they won't roll or be in the way too much.

With all the shit going on in the world today that is legitimately a fucking problem, this person is wasting their time shaming people for not putting up a shopping cart. I remember reading an article about how some exec at a big company did his interviews. He would invite the person to go shopping with him and conduct the interview. Then he would see if they'd help load the groceries. After that he'd ask them to put the cart away and if they just stuck it somewhere besides the coral they wouldn't get the job. He said if they were too lazy to walk over and put up a shopping cart then he wouldn't want them to be helping run his company.

I'm sorry you're tail light got busted but I'd rather see this energy directed towards stopping children from being detained, stopping black Americans from being murdered by cops, or trying to help homeless people get their lives together. I always return em to their collection bay things, even sometimes grab others.

Once I was tempted to return those power scooters they have at walmart, but with my luck I'd probably drive it across the parking lot and gets chewed out for joy riding in it when some one left it across the lot and practically in the ditch.

Not everywhere. I don't even know a lot of places in the US that do that, tbh.

Btw, I always put my cart back. Not really out of courtesy for the cart guy, but so that it won't be in the way of other cars trying to park.

I want to know how many times this guy has gotten sued for harrassment slander. He really does sound like he needs a black eye. The first few minutes fine, but to bug the shit out of the guy for 15 minutes? Eventually he is going to be arrested for trespassing if enough people complain to these companies.
