Oh man, I read the Wikipedia blurb on it

Based on the journals of explorer Arthur Denison, Dinotopia is about two boys, Carl and David, and their amazing encounters with Dinosaurs when they crash land in the ocean near an uncharted island.

and thought it meant Arthur Denison was a real explorer and I got very excited. :(

I haven't read the books but the mini-series was dope. Being a Prison Break fan I was pleasantly surprised to see a young Michael Scofield as one of the main characters.
