I was always kinda meh on strawberries. I did like strawberry ice cream (especially in drink form...yum), but the strawberries themselves were never my favorite. It was the seeds you see, the seeds detract from the yumness factor....or at least did.

But...on Saturday I went shopping and they had buy one get one free on 1 pound of strawberries, so I got 2 of em.

2 pounds of strawberries is alot for one bloke to munch on without freezing them. I usually only have a few days before they go south, even in the fridge.

But something was different, something had changed.

I ate a few strawberries and....the seeds.....they did not bother me???!!!

Yup, I munched about 1/2 a pound of strawberries the night I bought them and they were scrumptious....but then I stopped.

Tossed the other half in the fridge and went to be.

The next day, my brain remembered the yumminess of the strawberries and yelled at me "MORE"!!

I resisted at first, I mean, it was the morning, there was tons of other stuff for me to eat, but I eventually gave in and
grabbed the other half pound. I munched em down while chatting with a friend on the phone, casually mentioning that the strawberries were very good this year and buy one get one free at safeway (he lives up in seattle so they have the same safeway deals).

Well, I finished off those strawberries pretty fast, and when I got off the phone, the other pound of strawberries were calling to me.
I knew eating too many strawberries could be bad, I remember a very old book, from when I was a kid (boxcar children I think it was) where the youngest kid ate too many and got very sick.

But bah, that was half a century ago almost, screw it. So I grabbed the other pound and munched about half of em right then and there. That was a full pound of strawberries I had just munched, and damn they were good.

But I didn't really feel like getting up and putting back in the fridge, so I just left em on the table beside my bed and continued watching black flag on stars. Every once in awhile though, my hand would sneak over and snag another strawberry, until......
yup you guessed it, ALL the strawberries were gone. I ate a whole pound and a half of em within an hour or so.

Luckily there were no negative effects. I'm not sure if it was just fiction that eating too many can make you sick, or perhaps too many is more than 1 1/2 pounds, but whatever the answer is, I didn't get sick or feel bad at all. In fact, I felt great, those strawberries were delicious.

Now I must decide, should I venture forth back into the wasteland which is Tacoma, temp fate once again even with a mask, just to get more strawberries before the sale ends (new ones tomorrow as always for safeway).

I do desire the strawberries now, perhaps I am a strawberry vampire from staying inside for so long. If I do not have the strawberries perhaps I will wither up and become a husk, doomed to suffer here until someone with strawberries investigates and wakens my thirst

If I am a strawberry vampire, I wonder what my weakness will be? It's not sunlight (though it does make me hiss if it's too strong), and it's certainly not garlic. I think it may be sushi.......I will avoid eating any sushi just in case.

your weakness would be coffee. The flavour of coffee+strawberry is chemically neutral

I like to take them out of the fridge and just let them sit on the countertop for at least half an hour or so, the things taste way better to me if theyre not cold

Lol!! Glad to know the whole eating too many strawberry thing is true. Just got back from foraging for them (From safeway). There was 3 of them left only, and 2 of them were half full!!

I just washed the half full one thouroughly and am going to snarf on it in a sec. Can't believe people cherry picked strawberry containers during a pandemic.

Least I am going to get my strawberry fix.

Also, I rarely drink coffee anymore (used to like it but have converted to pure tea), maybe that has something to do with liking strawberries more now!!

I think it's just from overeating and not the strawberries themselves. Although apparently there are bugs in them and you're supposed to soak them in salt water first to kill them.

Strawberry seeds never bothered me.

BlackBerry seeds on the other hand, can be frustrating when they get in your teeth

My wife loved chocolate covered strawberries but she was diabetic, so couldn't have them often.

I don't like rasberries or blueberries at all. I did used to like fresh blackberries off the vine, although the ones in stores usually taste acidic/toxic, I think they spray them with something.

As a kid I would search for blackberry vines though, walnut trees etc, even in San Francisco they were around (well the trees at least). Great supplimental foods.
