I got a bunch of fruit (buy one get one free for strawberries!), and I got 2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken thighs, and 2 pounds of ground beef. All were on great sale, and I have good plans for making them into tacos, pasta sauce etc.

But I also got sugar free cinnamon quaker oats oatmeal.

So I wake up this morning (at least I had tacos yesterday with some of the ground beef), and do I eat the fruit? Nope (bannanas I'm looking at you), do I decide to get started making the chicken or more tacos or whatever (mind you I don't eat within 2 hours of waking up so it's not a traditional breakfast for me, I don't actually do breakfasts).

No, I just have a huge urge tomake the oatmeal and add a dab of butter on top, which I did, and am now eating.

But this ALWAYS happens for me, whenever I buy things that will go bad, other things that I already had, or bought, that won't, suddenly are FAR more appetizing.

Now in this case it's been like over a year (maybe two) since I had oatmeal, and it was a very strong craving, I just couldn't resist, but it's not always the case. It also often makes me want to go out and eat (which I can't right now) even though I just went shopping. It's like my subconcious rails against being forced to eat something, even though I, myself, picked that damn thing out just a day ago!!

Am I that chaotic? Can I not have ANY order in my life?

Aarrrrgh.

I think that since you have options you're just choosing the path of least resistance. I don't know about you but I don't always eat 3 square meals a day, so If I eat breakfast that will throw me off and I won't feel hungry until way later. Whereas if I skip it i'm more inclined to make that meal I planned on that afternoon or evening.

Something to think about is making your meals over the weekend, freezing those youll eat lasts in the week. While eating the same thing day after day is a little tiresome, you get used to it after a while. Also spicing it up helps.

Uhhhh why not add some of your fruit to the oatmeal when ready to eat? I do the same thing with frozen fruit.

Yeah, i've thought about doing the pre-made meal thing now adays since i'm often not motivated to make anything special. I'm kinda doing that with the chicken in fact (not sure if i'll freeze any though). I'm testing it out, and if this works ok, I may just do a 1 day prep for the whole week thing.

I used to be too picky and want all my food fresh, but.....frozen good meals > fresh blah meals I guess.

That's me with celery. I love celery, but I end up snacking on granola bars or sunflower seeds instead.
