On the broad scale of the USA's history, we've progressed pretty far from the days of slavery.

Though on a global scale, China scares the hell out of me. Over 1/7th of the world's population is either under omnipresent surveillance, or are too poor to be cared about in that way.

On a personal level, yes. But on a societal level, no.

Good is relative by society and time. I think most people do what they think they should be doing at the time to be a "good person"

They want to be. It's hard to be good when it costs you something you want. Then the excuses come out.

Hard to say. It isnt like people are out here resting each others ethics all the time. People generally mind their own business so you dont know if they a good person or not. You need to see people in action acting on beliefs to get a good indication. Even just talking to people can open up some doors on this.

The average person is just trying to be an average person who is still alive tomorrow morning.
That's neither good nor bad.

If you'd have asked me two years ago, I would have said yes.
