Because during American slavery when a slave master would rape one of his slaves, the baby being mixed would still be considered black aka a slave.

So for half-black/half-white individuals, that thing kind of still exists where if you are partially black, you get rounded up into fully black.

So people just have a hard time accepting mixed people as....mixed.

Afaik this is mostly an American thing. In other places someone like that is generally considered mixed (or whatever they profile themselves as)
