The 2080 seems to be slightly overpriced and you can get a Windows 10 key from ebay in <30 minutes for $10, but otherwise looks good

Edit: https://www.newegg.com/asus-rtx-2080-super-dual-rtx2080s-o8g-evo/p/N82E16814126354

$730. Don't think a slightly faster OC is worth $300 imo. Actually that might be the same model, but anyway that is a huge price difference

  • Get rid of the HDD, and go for a NVME M2 drive. That motherboard supports it, supports two actually.
  • Get your windows 10 key on ebay. $10 vs $110, easy choice.
Other than that, I like. $1080 on the 2080, could go cheaper on that, but really well done.

They all have minute differences. Different clock speeds, max speeds, etc. If you aren't onto that aspect of it, go with the cheaper versions. At most you lose 5% performance, but its often hundreds of dollars less.

Since you like RGB, the cases that seem to be really popular right now for showing RGB setups are the Lian Li Dynamic and NZXT H500

I have a Lian Li even though I don't do RGB but fair warning if you go that route, with the hidden compartment behind the motherboard, it removes some clearance and my graphics card (EVGA 2070 Super FTW3 Ultra dumb name) barely fit in there and I couldn't use an EVGA Powerlink I bought

The price on GPUs has been steady for some time, because Nvidia feels no need to barter with itself. Until ATI brings the horses up to the stable, Nvidia's just going to trot all over everything.

All the first impressions and reviews of the processor came out when it was much more expensive, it's a fantastic value proposition at it's current pricing

EDIT: Think of the 3800x as a very highly binned 3700x with a higher TDP. Personally it crunches through anything I throw at it no problem, and you won't bottleneck the current flagships, and probably the next couple gen flagships

also asking gfaqs for pc advice, my condolences.
Built my midrange PC in 2012 and a month ago after getting advice from GameFAQs both times and I've had zero issues so I don't see the problem. The 2012 PC can still play games, it's just slow primarily from all of the random shit I've installed over the last 8 years and not having and SSDs

If TC wants a comparable build, here's mine from a month ago

https://i.imgur.com/zDnjrnj.jpg (coffee mug placement wasn't intentional >_>)

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x
Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Wifi
GPU: GTX 2070 Super FTW3 Ultra
Air Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB 3600 MHz
Storage: 1 TB WD Black SN750 (Windows 10 Pro OS) + 1 TB Samsung Evo 860 + 2 TB WD Blue 5400 RPM
Storage: 1 TB Samsung Evo 860 (Ubuntu)
Case: Lian Li O11DW Dynamic (Black)
PSU: EVGA Supernova 750 G+

Minus the extra accessories like the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and extra case fans + extra cpu fan (installed after above pic was taken), it ran me just north of $2000. Drop some storage and upgrade the graphics card to a 2080 that isn't overpriced and that's pretty much what TC would have.
