In the thirty years I've lived where I live, I have essentially never locked my doors at night.

Hell, I've basically never even locked my doors, period. Never once had it be an issue.

Yeah, I rarely lock my door while I'm home unless it's a particularly cold night (deadbolt helps keep it shut a tad tighter).

It didn't bother me that much.

This is a great example of why locking the door is important, actually.

Nothing is going to keep a determined burglar out, but, for example, if getting inside involves shattering a lot of glass rather than just turning a knob, you'll have a better chance of getting some warning.

I lock my door always, but I doubt anyone would ever actually have robbed me in my area. My biggest worry is actually a wandering severly autstic man who seems to end up in random places throughout the neighborhood. Ended up fully clothed in some guy's hot tub way back.

Never had trouble with outsiders or neighbors.

I live in a townhouse, so I don't really worry too much about break ins while I'm home. If there's an altercation my neighbors will probably hear it.

That said I still lock my doors and have a loaded Remington under my bed. Better safe than sorry.

Yea, I do frequently. If someone comes in they're being greeted by a black Belgian Malinois/Pit mix that looks a lot more frightening than she is, but she barks loud and the gun is pretty accessible.

Edit: She black and we keep the the home dark either way, so they're going to see teeth, and not much else unless she does bite which is unlikely.

We used to never lock the doors to my old apartment. It wasnt on the main level and there was only one other apartment on our level so we just....didnt. Never had problems tbh, even for a college town.

Now the apartment I live in you need a key to get into the building so itd be even safer, though I always lock it >_>

Hard to say, since if I knew I would just get up and go lock it. I don't have *too* much to worry about because I live in a small apartment building with very quiet neighbors (and my landlords live right next to me and they tend to do a tour of the building if they wake up in the middle of the night just to check that the front and back doors are closed and locked properly), but I'd still much prefer to have it locked than not just in case. Even if it usually never matters, it costs nothing to be ready in case it ever does matter.
