Every game after Thousand Year Door was disappointing frankly. And it's not that they weren't as good as TTYD, it's that they just kinda sucked... I hope this new one will be captivating what Paper Mario 64 and TTYD was.

Because it's not TTYD2.

Also it might suck, I dunno, but the main thing is what I said above.

pinky, you must be REALLY out of the loop, to not know about the Paper Mario hate. People have been ragging on the series since Super Paper Mario, and that came out in about 2008. How's the rock?

I think it looks good too, but there are a couple of valid concerns:

1. Battles possibly relying on consumable items/coins again
2. Partners possibly being generic characters

Neither of those is confirmed as far as I'm aware.

People have a deep fondness for the original two games, and haven't cared for the direction they've gone with with the last three games, away from RPG elements and unique characters (and also those games haven't been great at the direction they took, either).

So everybody's parsing the info they've shown/said about the new game to see if there are signs of a return to the old style. It seems they've ditched some of the worse ideas from recent games, but it doesn't look like TTYD 2 either, which I think is fans would really want.

Yeah, only the first 2 games in the series are good Super didn't even feel like a mario game it felt like some generic JRPG with Mario character slapped in, then came Sticker Star, Color Splash and Origami King where battles are boring, dialogue amounts to "Dude, we're paper! lmao" and the world is corporate streamlined as hell to be instantly recognizable and straightforward, oh and the music took a massive downturn as well,you can count the number of good songs in the past 3 games on one hand and still have fingers left over.

That's pretty sad. My only exposure was to the N64 game which was basically just Mario, the RPG. Which is all it should be, right?

I still think that Super is possibly the funniest game that Nintendo has ever published. Gameplay is okay but I thought it dragged on too long.

The story was ditched in Sticker Star, but hopefully we're back to a good script with Origami King.

Origami King looks fun to me, but I only recently (last month) played PM for the first time. I don't even understand all the love for TTYD, personally, 64 is a lot better.

Nah, Super Paper Mario was different but most fans enjoyed it since it still contained the elements they enjoyed from the original games.

Sticker Star and Color Splash were the ones that people hated.

The gameplay in Super leaves much to be desired the the story, characters, and writing were among the best in any mario rpg game.

Sticker star and every one after on top of gameplay have been among the worst. I still dont know who's design choice it was not to reward players from battles. Making encounters s complete waste of time and to simply avoid.

Well Mario and Luigi is now a dead series unless Nintendo finds another studio to do it. Origami King actually looks promising from what I've seen, but obviously it's not the Paper Mario game I truly want. I have to imagine Nintendo will want to keep the Mario RPG games going because they're probably the most popular spin-off games aside from the Mario Kart series. It seems like it's time for the birth of a new Mario RPG series. Mario and Luigi was great but I'm okay with it not being revived. And Paper Mario does not look like it will return to its roots. So hopefully Nintendo doesn't just sit back and think Origami King is enough.

Color splash is good as a action adventure game.

good level variety, lots of content, solid writing

if it had the simple combat of Super Paper Mario and the focus on puzzle solving it would be truly great

problem is theyve stuck with the turn based system, but not giving the player any reason to waste the time battling, since theres no exp/leveling system.

7.5/10, it has the charm to make it worth playing but some annoyances
