I apologize for starting a discussion here that became seemingly unpleasant for some, but I did really like having presented to me more detailed why it made a difference for many of you being the one with the controller. It puts things into perspective and it's something the game absolutely deserves praise for. I do accept that it can make a bigger difference than I initially gave it credit for, although I still think disliking if watching and loving if played is an extreme and unlikely case.

I still think this has some flaws when the game is as long as it is. Mostly because you're a lot more likely to keep on playing until the end of the game if you enjoy playing it. If you're not enjoying it, it's a lot of time to spend on the chance that you might enjoy it at the end. I'd say that if you played up until a certain point, your opinion on the ending obviously is less valuable, but I'm not going to take your opinion on what you've played with less value. If parts of the game weren't good when you played them but you need to see some later story parts to enjoy them, then that's certainly a fair criticism in itself. It's important here to make the distinction between enjoying the game and being interested in where it goes, but for example not initially enjoying playing as Abby and disliking the game up until that point.

Yeah, without those last few minutes people might come away thinking revenge is great instead of bad. It's a subtle theme that really requires the big picture.

The argument here wouldn't be that you should hate Ellie more than Abby because Ellie does worse things, it's that if you hate Abby because she is a 'crazy bitch who kills people willy nilly', then you're probably not giving an accurate explanation for why you hate her.

I don't agree that you need to play a game to the end to criticize its story or gameplay. I think for most games value judgments can be made anywhere between 1/3 or half way through a game. If you play the game a third of the way through, and all the gameplay systems are open to you, and you absolutely do not want to keep playing, then that's a valid criticism.

Even if the last fifteen minutes are really evocative/emotional, you cannot discount the fact that something prevented this player from wanting to invest their time in the game.

Anyway, I do feel kind of bad that this topic has been effectively derailed from its original purpose.

I went back to watch the video and it does actually look like he just gets hit in the ear/side of the face. It's hard to see since he's facing away, but it does match up with his wound in the epilogue.

If you wanna talk about injuries not matching up, Ellie unavoidably gets an arrow in her shoulder area on her way to the hospital but when Dina is cleaning her after coming back from the hospital, that wound does not exist.

I haven't read through this whole topic, but I saw people complaining about not including all the state quarters. It honestly bothered me a lot more that they didn't even attempt to get the years right on them. They released 5 state quarters a year in the order that states joined the union, but they almost all seemed to be 2002 whenever I checked.

Just got around to watching Dunkey's review and was pleasantly surprised with what he had to say about the game.

I've begun my platinum new game+ run. Got Ellie fully upgraded in chapter 9, so now I'm just running through the sections getting to Abby's part.

The pacing is not an issue when you're not exploring things at least. Though obviously this isn't the ideal way of going through it on your first run.

I kinda want to go back and play this again, in fact I really do. Just have quite the backlog to deal with here.

I just started my New Game+ run a couple days ago. I'm playing on a harder difficulty and it's still pretty fun.

Maybe it's my inclination to stealth whenever I can in a game (which more or less aolves the low resources issue), but I only played Survivor and I didn't find it all that terribly hard, or at least not the "not fun" levels of hard that many claim. Don't get me wrong, I probably didn't first try a single major encounter, but they're so generous with checkpoints in this game that it really doesn't matter how bad I was.

(I also played TLOU1 on Survivor right before this, so that might have helped.)

Also, they probably patched it by now, but when I did NG+ you could set off the tripwire traps with the bow (which you wouldn't have yet in NG) and the arrow would stay suspended in mid-air, fully retrievable everytime.
