Definitely the former. That way there's a chance I'll get to experience some of those cool rare events even if I don't end up grinding in that particular game.

Normally, I'd go with luck. My luck can be pretty good in some games. But I still don't like waiting on that luck to show. But a high requirement to earn means that I feel like I'm working toward it the whole time...

I like when skill and are good strategy are needed to obtain things, and more importantly make obtaining things actually useful.

I never got the point of grinding for equipment that lets you just grind for even better equipment and it's all luck if you actually get it.

But if the battle is actually hard and you need good equipment to even have a chance, then there is a sense of accomplishment for defeating the enemy, getting the equipment (which is automatic not luck) and allows you to move forward to the next challenge (which is probably even more difficult).

I really don't luck based crap.
