Gonna go with motion controls. They tried it in two gens with a glorified web cam, and then with the Wii, a second glorified webcam, and the Wii remote with a ball on top. And I've never gotten the appeal, when I want to relax after a hard day, I want to do it moving as little of my body as possible.

Mostly seen in mobile games. Summoning items and characters, all with varying rarities and drop rates.
In mobile games, its down right predatory. They target gamblers and people who have obsessions to fill collections. They give you free daily draws and you can sometimes earn draw tickets to get extra draws. This just fuels people to keep going and open their wallets to buy more draws.

Many of the best characters in these games are locked in this gambling system, so it can set metas behind a pay wall. You can be the best player in the game, but still get fucked by RNG or another player willing to pay more to get a character or weapon.

Some motion controls can work wonders. I was at an arcade down in Florida that had full motion martial arts games. Wasn't the greatest but it was also 20 years ago. For me, its experimenting outside the realm that got you famous. Sure it works some times(in the case of Overwatch), but other times the games just feel awful.

Case in point Final Fantasy's direction towards action rpg gaming. I'm not a fan of it, because I know they can do some really kick ass games when they stick to a turn based/action turn based combat system. Or Metal Gear 5/FF15s open world attempt. Sure its big, but both worlds are nearly barren.

I'm fine with QTEs as long as they don't result in instant deaths, like RE4, RE5, or RE6.

Oh yeah, I haven't seen any of those in a while.... I guess they finally realized people were getting smart enough not to buy a pile of shit that had to be bashed out in time for a movie release date.

The best part was most of them didn't have anything to do with the movie.

I'm unfamiliar with Shivering Isles but Undead Nightmare was different from Red Dead. An example of that as the Mona Lisa would probably be a smaller Mona but in a different color.

Loot based games like destiny and the division that release yearly and monthly expansions. The pricing qaulity of them are horrible.

Also pre order special editions for early access and Season passes, I've never seen one worth the money and devs usually drop support for these games after a year.

Youd be surprised at the staying power motion control games have had amongst casual audiences

while gaming companies themselves have mostly left it behind, I know many non-gamers or casual gamers who still play Wii Sports and its ilk more than just about anything else. I mean, a Just Dance game came out for the Wii last year, outliving the Wii U ports even. Id say its gotten more niche but I think theres a surprisingly large audience who havent really been into gaming since who would potentially get back into it with a new motion control wave
