Gov. Greg Abbott says right now is the last chance for people in Texas to work to contain the spread of COVID-19 before having to force the economy to shut down.
If we do not contain this measure right now, we will lose the last, best chance to slow the coronavirus for anything short of having to shut our economy back down, Gov. Abbott said in an interview with KTAB. Thats the last thing we want to have happen in Texas.

So essentially, we're going to shut down again because people still don't want to wear masks.

The ones still refusing to masks will be the first ones bitching again when they can't go sit down to eat at Golden Corral

Fuck em at this point, let it shut down again. Let them keep doing it to themselves. All they are hurting is their families and their community for being selfish.

The problem with that is that this doesn't just affect them. If Texas shuts down again, everyone is going to be hurting. Again.

Yup. Or theyre gonna get it and be in the hospital and ask for thoughts and prayers when they didnt do the most basic thing to greatly reduce their chance of getting it.

Abbott had chances. Now he's trying to go all Tidus from FFX on us like he hasn't been a major part of the problem.

Pretty much. Anyone who takes an honest look at what's happening saw this coming a while back.

Texas started out with a much slower spread than other areas. It only started to decrease during the shutdown. Then we opened back up waaayyyy too early. People went to bars, churches, swimming pools, lakes, etc. in droves. The protests and riots certainly didn't help the situation at the very least.

Then if you've paid attention to the governor's language, he tried to justify opening by saying that deaths were expected and the goal wasn't to get down to zero deaths. Then we've got our lieutenant governor saying old people are willing to sacrifice their lives for the economy. Then it turned into:

  1. We aren't shutting down again
  2. We know cases are going back up, but we're not shutting down again
  3. Cases are going back up too quickly, if we don't want to shut down again, we've got to do something to stop the spread. Wear a mask.
  4. Cases are going back up way too quickly and our healthcare infrastructure is at risk of being overrun. This is our last chance to do it right before we shut down again.

So essentially, yeah... Texas is gonna shut down again. The right has spent a ton of time convincing themselves that COVID-19 is a liberal government hoax designed to make Trump look bad so now we've got tons of idiots who refuse to wear masks and are making up medical reasons to justify not wearing a mask and still trying to go into stores without masks on.

Fuck.

Texas will blame it's people, and while they deserve some blame for sticking their tongues out at the virus, the state needs to take responsibility too. They were the ones who opened up way too soon with enough tests or tracers. They were the ones who opened up while not paying attention to the data. They were the ones that allowed needless things that require close contact. The fact is they didn't have the virus contained before opening up, and even if they took correct measures it would be hard to contain it while opened up. Now instead of one shut down, they are staring two in the span of 6 months. That's what their eagerness to ignore science gets them. I feel horrible for the people in Texas, even the ones who are being stupid, because their state failed them long before they did, and now the state will give them all the blame.

I have to work our Galveston shop 2 to 8 today, but they shut beaches down and seawall parking, so we will see how dead it is...

Luckily that store sees like 10 people a day maybe, and it's only me working

I can see Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama all being next.. in TN right now for whatever reason most counties just skipped ahead to reopening phase 4, bars are packed showing live music, maybe 10% of the public is wearing masks here. Its revolting. It's about to blow up after tomorrow I bet.

The last best chance was the original shutdown. You know, the one that they were:

Too late to implement
Too loose with while it was going
And too early to end

Texan here.

I am the only one in my entire extended family who cares anything about taking precautions for Covid. They refuse to wear masks, or stop going to social gatherings.

I'm probably going to end up catching it because of their stupidity, and it's infuriating.

How dare you question my God-given right to be a dangerous idiot
