I don't understand why the British population views the continued existence of the house of lords as acceptable. Powerless monarchy, understandable. Fully.

""Powerless"" upper house of parliament that gets to advice in political matter based entirely on birth, status in the state church or appointment by lord fartministers of ages past? How is that acceptable in a "democracy"?

The majority of us don't, but there's not a lot you can do about the House of Lords. All major parties have members in the HoL so they'd never vote to scrap it. It is what it is.

It's large majority conservative though (and lol who would've guessed). Shouldn't it be expedient for any other party to demolish it then?

Labour have 177 peers in the house compared to the Conservatives 243. You're operating under the assumption that Labour would want to get rid of the HoL. When/if they get back into power, they'll recommend their friends for peerages and the whole cycle starts again. You're looking in the wrong place if you expect the Conservatives or Labour to even consider getting rid of the House of Lords.
