What was your result (regardless of your preference)?

Take a Harvard Implicit Association Test:
1) Go here: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html
2) Click on "I wish to proceed" on the bottom.
3) Click on "Race IAT".
4) Take the test.
5) Share your results.

Your automatic preference may be described as "slight", "moderate", "strong", or "no preference". This indicates the strength of your automatic preference.

I do think they ask way too many demographic questions, but I get why they do that. The test itself is basically associating "good" words with x, and "bad words" with y, then flipping it and seeing how you react.

What do you mean? The other part had "bad" and "white people" combined. They're literally just flipping it to test your "implicit bias".

What's not to get? It's to try to see if you implicitly see "bad" with x, or "bad" with y. That's why you have to answer quickly, your first thoughts, not sit there and study the picture/word.

Pretty silly test IMO since it trains you to associate good with white and drills you on it, anyone good at adapting to the new instructions will pass 100% regardless of their bias. I took this years ago in college and didn't miss a single one.

Do you think that these tests exist so that the results can be widely released? Conclusions drawn? Papers written? Any research that has been published by people who prop up this test is focused around how the test is valid and useful. Its meant to be a tool to be used by those who can benefit from it.

This is the main crux of the argument against its methodology. Also, for those who do make mistakes it probably happened in the last few rounds or immediately after a side switches.

These tests have been around for decades. Nobody takes them seriously anymore and theyre typically only used as a tacked on training for employees when HR is trying to look like they theyre doing something.

IAT outcome measures are usually response time, not accuracy. Typically in tasks like this you actually throw out the incorrect trials, since it's unclear why someone made an incorrect response. The idea being that if you have automatic associations that push responding in one direction, the response conflict will produce longer reaction times. It's a similar idea to the Stroop task, where you present color words in different colors, and when the color of the word conflicts with the word, it's takes longer to respond because you need to overcome the automatic response.

It's not entirely unreasonable, but I remember the literature on it being a bit of mess.

Did it say anything about people getting used to sides? I already didn't like the rest when both bad and black shared the same side. Then the third portion had them both on left. Now that people said the fourth portion is flipping it, I feel like the test trains you on one side for certain things, and then flipping it throws people off.

The "bad" or "right" being on the left or right is randomized, if that's what you're asking.

I think they typically counterbalance the motor response so that the effect of switching in either direction is averaged out across conditions. The motor response mapping should average out, especially if you have enough trials.

Your score is described as an "Automatic preference for White people over Black people" if the opposite occurred.
