The sad thing is the 4th isn't even our nation's birth date. At best it's our conception date. It would be like creating a holiday for when the Mexicans defeated the French, and then treating it as their own Independence Day, except in this case our forefathers hadn't even won anything yet short of drawing up a parchment and saying "No more!" with it.
That all said, I wish Canada a happy birthday. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Canada can get a birthday once it gets a real national anthem, tbh. "O Canada" ain't cutting the cake.
Speaking of anthems, France has a really badass one but the country is known for being kinda candy ass. Entity13 posted... The sad thing is the 4th isn't even our nation's birth date. Any day that's significant for the founding of the nation is adequate. Independence Day makes sense because the formal declaration. Sure, and I can go with that, but I am pointing out that we chose our defining moment to be when our forefathers wrote and signed a piece of paper when they were both in the minority of the colonial population and not gaining any ground (as of yet) against another third of the population that remained loyal (the last third didn't want anything to do with this conflict whatsoever). That's right, our defining moment is when the colonies were divided between inept authoritarians, rioters unhappy about not being represented for the taxes being required to pay for the Seven Year War the American colonists had started years prior (and yet were asked to pay less than other British colonies), and literally everyone else. I wonder how much has changed? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
