Lena Dunham's privilege is not lost on her. Dunham responded to critics who pointed to her early success as the star, writer and executive producer of the hit HBO series Girls at the age of 23 as a prime example of white privilege. In a series of tweets on Sunday, the actress said she agreed that the "Hollywood system is rigged in favor of white people" but admitted that it took her a while to come to that understanding. "Whenever I found out I'm trending, I have to immediately check if I'm alive! Then, I try and see if there's a constructive dialogue to have on Twitter. Often there isn't, but today there really WAS," she wrote. "It actually wasn't a dialogue - it was just me agreeing that the Hollywood system is rigged in favor of white people and that my career took off at a young age with relative ease, ease I wasn't able to recognize because I also didn't know what privilege was."

"The past ten years have been a series of lessons. The lesson now? Sit down. Shut up, unless it's to advocate for change for Black people," she wrote. "Listen. Make art in private for awhile- no one needs your book right now lady. Give reparations widely. Defund the police. Rinse & repeat." Dunham began trending online after a past interview with the Hollywood Reporter resurfaced, in which she opened up about her lack of preparation for her initial pitch meeting with HBO to discuss Girls. "I mean, it is the worst pitch youve ever read, she said, revealing that she had not yet developed a character or overall plot for the show. "It was like, 'They're everything, they're nothing, they're everywhere, they're nowhere.' Its pretentious and horrifying, but I remember sitting on the floor, listening to Tegan and Sara in my underwear, being like, 'I'm a genius.'

It's hard to take her seriously when she refused to have black characters in her show because "As a white woman, I can't do a black character justice" or whatever bullshit she was pulling.

And also when she called a black woman a liar when the black woman #MeToo'd her white friend.

Side note: Girls is a really good show when you realize everyone except Ray and Hannah's parents are pieces of shit and the true villains of the show.

I'm not able to look up everything since I'm at work. I remember there being passages read where it was about that stuff. I could have fallen into the "fake news" crap but I'm pretty sure they were reputable sources citing her book.

But I do know it happened when they were kids. Not sure when it ended. I know some people have pushed it to where she was late teens but I don't know about that.

Okay I looked it up, I don't think she had any sexual relations to her sister or something, but yeah without more context it does sound creepy. I wonder why she put that in her book, if I was the editor I would tell her to take it out because it's definitely going into the TMI territory.

Yeah I wouldn't characterize it as sexual relations either just based on the age. It's, just like you said, why would you bring it up? And make jokes about it?

I am all for comedy being comedy and there is nothing off limits. But it still has to be funny. And saying "Oh yeah I was acting like a child predator when I made my sister stick pebbles up her vagina" is just. a terrible attempt at dark/shock humor.

So i have a cousin who not only owns the book but let me read the parts that had it and honestly I can somewhat understand now why she put that part in. She's trying to be "organic" and "real", which means being 100% true and honest about her life. I can see the argument that it was sexual exploration, and I get it because as a kid it was normal to want to experiment and explore shit that was either taboo or because you were curious. On the other hand I can also see the argument of it being sexually manipulative as well because she's doing this to someone much younger than she is and something like this can affect them in the long run. To me, it's down to intent and I hope it was the former and not the latter.

But still yeah, it's still TMI territory and her making that predator joke (along with being one of the most unlikable person) did not help her cause at all. In fact, I think she actually hurts her cause more than helps it anytime she opens her mouth. I lean left but holy hell I just wish she would shut up at times... like in this case here.

Did you also see the undergrad rape story? Apparently she gave a fake name and described the guy in detail but it was either the wrong guy or mistaken identity so she got sued I think?
