it really doesnt. First one had mediocre gameplay and a good story. This one has slightly better gameplay contained in a worse structuring and a much worse story.

I highly disagree.

the gameplay in part two, while given only a few additions, has been tweaked to handle more smoothly, and those few additions add a lot to the experience.

and while not groundbreaking, the enemy AI make both combat and stealth more engaging.

and I thought that the story was structured well; the flashbacks/dreams reinforce thematic components for whatever's happening/to understand the character's progression/regression.

it's also difficult to compare either game's story, as they both focus on different things, but it's part two is as good as the original's, just in its own way.

Part of the big issue with Halo 2 was that the game was rushed. If I recall, they had to scrap a lot of stuff they showcased in early footage for technical reasons. Also, I think they had to scrap the final level that was to involve playing as Master Chief. I've heard it was either something as simple as him chasing Truth to Earth, chasing him on Earth, or it was to actually "finish" the fight on Earth, but then they decided to make the game a cliffhanger.

It wasn't leaked as far ahead of time and didn't reach anywhere near the same amount of people but it absolutely was leaked on this site like a week or so prior to release

Someone posted a screenshot of Raiden and many didn't believe it lol

Halo 2 was also hated because it had a huge ass cliffhanger and you had to wait like 4 years for 3.

Yeah that was the big issue with the game. Some people hated playing as The Arbiter, but that mostly died down. At least in comparison to the cliffhanger.

Crash Bandicoot is its own thing that's barely comparable.

I didn't really like the gunplay in Uncharted that much until 4 and then there just wasn't enough of it. Too many long stretches of just brainless climbing while characters talked.

TLOU 2s take on MGS2s twist is godawful and just because one can understand the attempted intent doesnt mean it suddenly elevates the conversation or anything. It just sucks lol

Raidens viewpoint is essential for the type of story Kohima was trying to tell in 2, which is more can I can say for TLOU2

I remember both me and my brother being surprised, thats for sure. For me, I kind of like was all "whatever" all after the fact because I really loved the gameplay and didn't really care who I was playing as since the game still felt like metal gear solid. I think my brother was a little more pissed about it because he really liked snake.

Maybe I was just way more chill as an 18 year old or something, I don't know.

I still hate playing the arbiter. I played all the games and just do not like him.

For MGS2 the hate was real for sure. Raiden was better liked in 4 when he was a ninja. Metal gear rising is my favorite game in the series now and I think most people like him.

I think people forget just HOW anticipated MGS2 was. MGS1 was NOT a small game and at the time MGS2 was one of the most hyped releases ever. You know how many copies ZOE sold just by throwing in a demo?

It's not like people were itching to play as goofy rodent mascots in all the popular games of the decade prior to that

Last of Us II plays well and looks great but in today's industry it doesn't stand out as much as MGS2 did then regardless of who you were playing as

Kojima was also clearly going for a SIKE moment with Snake. As are all games that do this sort of thing.

Kojima was also clearly going for a SIKE moment with Snake. As are all games that do this sort of thing.

Kojima as far as I can tell never went out in interviews going "Yep Snake is the ONLY playable character in this game."

Druckmann in comparison did it TWICE, once for each game, except people were wisening up after the second time and knew there would probably be some bait and switch down the road.
