Some Republican operatives are concerned that President Donald Trump could drop out of the race ahead of the presidential elections in November if his poll numbers continue to remain low.

"Its too early, but if the polls continue to worsen, you can see a scenario where he drops out," said one Republican operative to Fox News.

"Ive heard the talk but I doubt its true, said another. My bet is, he drops if he believes theres no way to win.

A recent poll by Fox News had Trump behind Democratic candidate Joe Biden by 12 points. Poll numbers for the president have dropped amid criticism of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the protests and riots in the wake of the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis policeman.

In the 2016 presidential elections, Trump trailed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in most polls up until the election itself. While Clinton did win almost three million more votes in the popular vote, she lost in the electoral college, according to Time Magazine.

The Trump campaign denied that the president would drop out of the race and spoke out against the polls and the methodology used to conduct them.

This is the granddaddy of fake news, Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told Fox. Everyone knows that media polling has always been wrong about President Trump - they undersample Republicans and dont screen for likely voters - in order to set false narratives. It wont work. There was similar fretting in 2016 and if it had been accurate, Hillary Clinton would be in the White House right now."

An additional statement from the Trump campaign read, as was the case in 2016, the mainstream news media is relying on polling financed by their own operations and others, released publicly in order to set a narrative that conforms with their own worldviews."

It continued: The presidents campaign has repeatedly called into question the validity of such polling, based on methodology, party representation in the sample, wording of questions, and other factors.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson stated that not many people are saying it out loud on the Right, but the fact is that President Trump could well lose this election. In fact, unless fundamental facts change soon, it could be tough for him to be re-elected.

pick a name from a hat and you still have a better chance. Trumps handling of covid took him from a prayer of low voter turnout like with hillary to praying covid last long enough to keep people from getting out to vote.

Taking any stance of getting away from trumps stance would strengthen the party. And biden has literally nothing going for him other than he isn't trump. Frankly the DNC should be more afraid than anything. Their entire campaign is built arund, "I'm not trump!". If the GOP got balls and ran Romney again, who has a track record of standing against trump lately, they could flip the poll numbers back in their favor.

If hes dropping out, itll likely be late in the ball game. A way to say Nobody ever beat me, I left because I wanted to. And it would leave the GOP with a very small window to put forth a candidate and get their name out. It would pretty much need to be Pence or bust.

Even if he believes he won't win, Trump will not drop out, no, instead he'll whine and complain on twitter while also doing his damnest to kill the postal service, destroy, delay or dismantle voting centers in areas where there are high democratic supporters like what Kentucky is doing to ensure Mitch McConnell wins against his challenger, we know this because they sat on their hands for 3 years completely ignoring any voter and election fraud bills that make it through congress, republicans don't give a shit about a fair election, I'd sooner believe they suspend the election whole sell citing Corona Virus reasons while at the same time keep telling their base that the corona virus is a sham.

Depends on the various deadlines of the various states.
It doesn't matter anyway, as the electors don't really have to deal with a cutoff date.

I think it's more believable that the GOP wants to drop the orange weight but they're not really in control of said weight and said weight has opinions about losing in anything ever.

Feels like the moderate love for Romney recently has been more genuine than the Biden love.

No there really isn't do you really think Trump would throw away the ability to profit from the presidency, avoid any and all laws because of being president and the power of a president willingly?

If he is no longer a president New York law enforcement is going to rip his ass up, they've been after Trump for years and the only reason he's not being dragged before a judge is because he's the president, it's why people are hoping Biden doesn't wuss out and pull a Ford for Trump to get the Republicans to work with him if he beats him, Trump being able to lose and just get away with everything sends an extremely messed up message to the country and foreshadows an even eviler more competent version of him ousting Biden.

Would be funny as hell, but not happening. More than Trump's ego is at stake. If he loses in November, he loses presidential protection from prosecution. He needs to win to let the statutes of limitations on all his charges expire
I can't see him just quitting all the illegal shit though, so there would just be new charges

I wouldn't put any amount of money on this actually happening, but it's a possibility that can't be completely dismissed. In the face of Covid-19 lasting well into next year if not longer, Trump's ego could very well take a backseat to him simply not wanting to do his job anymore; I imagine the presidency was a lot easier when he could spend all day carelessly shitposting on Twitter without having to constantly worry about / be reminded of his bungling response to the pandemic and protests / riots, dropping approval rates, etc. He could easily create a narrative where the American people didn't love him enough to deserve him that his base would gobble up, sparing him the ignominy of defeat and freeing him from the responsibility of a hard-times presidency that he is clearly unable to handle on any level.

As much as I would for this to happen this is 100% false. Trumps ego would never let him drop out. Hell bitch about fraud and rigged elections until he is dragged out of the White House but he will never just quit. Considering its Fox reporting this my assumption is this is nothing more than an attempt to energize his base more.
