Slaya4 06/27/20 4:42:36 PM #1:	We need to do away with it tbh. I took up learning how to type a few weeks ago and I started with 20 wpm and now I'm up to ~65 wpm. I'm still not great, but I'm noticing how left hand heavy the QWERTY layout is. I could go out my way and learn another keyboard layout but seems super inconvenient now since I'm just getting the hang of QWERTY. --- Am I going too hard? <cite>Slaya4 posted [p:941349440] in The QWERTY... Maybe it's the engineer in me that's coming out, but now I find myself constantly trying to make things more efficient with the least amount of effort. Incase others are actually interested in the subject here's a heatmap of different layouts https://www.patrick-wied.at/projects/heatmap-keyboard/ DVORAK is the next best thing that people praise. It looks too foreign to me and it looks too right hand heavy. Colemak looks to be ok. Not too foreign. I don't like the over utilizing my left pinky and moving my hand across the to the H key. Workman is the one I'm leaning heavily to, but it's too new and not easily supported I don't think. HALMARK is by far my favorite https://youtu.be/pZ40gmfDFfQ (5:30). As I've learned how to type properly I've been using the right shift key, but before yeah I never used it. It was mostly a waste of space. The CAPS lock is also in a terrible position. QWERTY came about after testing, what evidence do you have? Why do I have to be "good" at something in order to have an opinion on it. I type at ~70 wpm now. When can I start having an opinion on something? Why is a significant amount of research not "good enough?" Just look at the heatmap. How can anyone look at that and say, "yeah, it's efficient." Christopher Sholes himself keep improving the QWERTY layout and before he died had a layout completely different than QWERTY. If the inventor wasn't satisfied with his own product that carries more weight than somebody who blindly follows it. The only reason why we are stuck with it is because manufacturers provided to the masses the fastest not because it's the end all be all. It was simply, "good enough," but in modern society good enough isn't good enough. QWERTY served its purpose but it time to move onto something better and healthier.
