a woman who looks like and acts like typically women do, are way nicer to see than a woman who is no different than another guy/male counterpart.

Why do feminist icons have short hair and act manly and get buff

why cant females be awesome without being more like men?

Nah, man.

Rambo needs to wear a frilly pink suit and G.I. Jane needs to wear a bloodstained burlap sack.

That's empowerment.

In all honesty, I wonder exactly who is calling for hyper-masculine female characters. Women don't tend to identify with them and a lot of men are very vocal in their opposition to them. So who exactly is asking for these characters?

Did you guys like Linda Hamilton more as a helpless victim in T1 or as a shredded bad-ass in T2?

T2 was a superior movie but both iterations of the character served the purpose of their respective movies,

She wasn't helpless in the first movie. She terminated the mother fucker.

You know what's a great place to find stories where female characters kick ass while still acting feminine? Magical girl anime. Japan has the right idea.

T2 sarah felt so right and natural

Why do female 'badasses' these days often feel forced and trying a bit too hard?

Because they want to replace men on the hierarchy. Why do you think the popular Yaaas, Queen, slay characters are essentially men in female form, doing traditional male things, but with a heavy message of Anything you can do, I can do better!

It's tough to find female characters who display masculine traits (often used to survive whatever obstacles) without diminishing their feminine traits. Ripley in Aliens is the best example that comes to mind when she's holding onto Newt with one hand to display her motherly instincts while brandishing a firearm in the other, what with guns in the 80's standing for the example of pure machismo besides a phallic symbol.

This was basically going to be my next point. James Cameron got slammed for criticizing Wonder Woman but he was responsible for one of the best strong female characters in film history, Sarah Conner, and expanding upon the other best strongest female character, Ripley..

those characters are generally meant to attempt to display a breaking of gender norms, i.e. that acting unfeminine is not strange or alien and that women can be tough too. it's a reaction to a period of time where the majority of women in media, especially in things where someone is "kicking ass" like an action movie, is there for nothing except looking pretty and likely participating in a romance subplot. A lot of time when someone tries to make a "hot character who kick ass" they're mostly made for titilation and nothing else (see: that comic that i used to see posted a lot that's nothing but hot women in leather bondage gear doing flip kicks and saying generic empowerment stuff)

I agree that a woman who looks traditionally feminine is not anti-empowerment in and of itself though. The best sort of feminine empowerment isn't the sort of thing you're going to find in an action movie and has nothing to do with muscles or haircuts. Just tossing the argument of gender norms vs rebellion against those norms aside and presenting a woman as a person is a powerful statement all on its own

Feminism is the ideal that says gender roles are imposed by the patriarchy and there is no such thing as being "feminine".
As in, there is no female brain and male brain.
No set way for a woman to act or carry herself.

Which if you think about it for a second, pits feminists and trans activism at odds.

A lot of straight women actually HATE female characters that are written "too much like flawless stoic macho men". It's seen as pandering towards them with an illusion of empowerment while also diminishing a female character's potential for "feminine power" that is usually unique to women in general. At least that's how they felt about it...

My coworker says she's can't stand perfect fictional superwomen inflated with godlike swiss army knife powers (like the male counterparts) because 99% of the women she's ever known are nothing like that and usually don't want to be. She says a well-written woman can be powerful, resourceful, AND relatable in her own natural ways without all that unnecessary "highly unattractive" fluff.

And she didn't mean unattractive to men. She meant it was a straight up turn off to most women too....
