Kids lack warmth and true human interactions so their empathy fades. They also crave and lack attention from their peers who are also lost in electronic devices, so they decide to join the party. They decide to seek attention and approval from the cold, uncaring universe that is the internet. Where likes and shares become their warmth and attention. Now ego/self worship, the great liars of our lives, can begin to take the stage. Both roads that often lead to crushing depression and destruction of the soul. Not to mention the road many are being forced down that cause them to go off and be in a strange city and job, in some lonely apartment away from everyone they know. Forced to face these things alone. With no meaningful way to reach out but sad social media posts. This must be a very hard time to experience life. Hopefully things will improve. I was the parent helper a few times for a preschool and this one girl didnt simply hoard toys for herself to play with. Instead she hoarded them, hid them, and gleefully kept anyone, including herself, from playing with them. Parents buried in their phones creeps me out too. Saw a mom pushing a kid in a cart at the story literally crash into a display sign. Or when you see a family at a restaurant all sitting quietly with their devices. --- Parent or parent-to-be?
