Yeah, there's definitely a grinding aspect to it.

There's this @pixel_dailies account that might RT your work and hold competitions and stuff, might be worth to take a look.

Also perhaps experiment with the presentation of your art. The sprite on white is good for clarity but not too visually exciting.

if make a tweet, and reply to the same tweet with the same image, I can put all of the hashtags in the second post and the image will still show up in the tags

technically the 2nd post is whats showing up in the tags but thats why I have to post the same image again. With Twitter's absurdly low character count, there just isn't enough room for hashtags in the main post

this is all worth mentioning because hashtags don't work unless they're in the main post in tumblr. So its just a weird loophole i discovered. Definitely will be using this

protip: the twitter image window for a single image is 16:9, so vertically aligned images often crop poorly

one way around this is by posting the image twice (so you instead have two 8:9 images). I've also seen artists posting image + detail shot side-by-side, but it's unlikely you'd want to do that for pixel art

I feel like its an "over time" kind of thing

the people that make those threads DO uphold their end of the bargain and gas you up if you follow their conditions

but the OTHER people that are offering themselves up for F2F WITHIN the threads, they're not actually F2Fing lol. I guess they got what they needed from the threads and stopped doing it.

but I will say, its more than you think but less than you'd hope

I did get some followers. As I said, the people that signed up after me will more than likely do it for me, at least more often than the people already there. Gotta play the waiting game.

with that said, you probably can't expect alot from this anyways, this should probably be done if you need a decent 5-10 follower push or something. This isn't something you can build a fanbase out of. Alot of these people are streamers and I know 50 followers is important on twitch (but then again theres probably hundreds, maybe thousands of these threads and you're supposed to do all of them? lol I only did 4)

but anyways, it was a fun experiment

well, I probably won't be updating in this topic anymore. Everything is under way. I burst through the door running , who would've thought I would get 30+ followers within a week? but I know everything is slow and steady now. I think I got the hang of it.

I will probably look into getting an instagram and I will see if I can get back into my deviant art account. Those will be even slower probably but all of this will take time

I'll look into doing commissions sometime soon, not too long from now, I'll seek advice again then

and hopefully my goal of selling my own prints can happen

I went ahead and made an instagram and its primarily a phone app. I know the same could be said about twitter but at least that is fully functional on a browser.

You cannot upload into instagram via PC. Only through phone. And apparently you have to worry about sizes too, images can be too big and there aren't many options to fix it, you have to already be uploading it the perfect size. So I have to edit a sprite with the right spacing JUST for instagram now

Let alone transferring your images into your phone in the first place. What if I go through the trouble of transferring it and the size is wrong?

theres a convoluted method inwhich you make your browser function as a mobile app and then log into IG

The images HAVE to be Jpeg, and I can only upload one at a time. I was gonna do my Jojo one but I had to cut it up individually (again, the size issue)

I wanted to upload them all into one post but ...you cant select all 3 to upload at the same time while doing this Mobile on Desktop hack thing

it's not really personal, it's just fanart of their character. some totally random people liked it and it's fine

artfight is a month-long thing where you draw fanart of other people's characters. there's a separate site (artfight.net) but I also like cross-posting my stuff to twitter. it could get you some exposure, though I dunno if the effort is worth it since you'd need to make an account and make characters and stuff

Yeah, IG is really built mobile-first. I think it's just simpler in the long run to come up with a template for your posts, get them pics ready on PC, and send them to your Phone.

If you use Chrome, you can just open up Developer Tools and there's a button to toggle sites into their mobile versions. It's super handy as a developer, but it's also an easy way to get around stuff like Instagram. I assume other browsers have something similar.

So let me tell yall what happened yesterday

I uploaded a sprite of Joseph Joestar I did and I tagged the VA as per usual

he liked it and it was sweet of him

but THATS ALL that sprite got. Weekend and fourth of july didn't help

then the VA shaved his beard and posted a pic, I replied with an image of Old Joseph but still young

He flipped out over it and he retweeted THAT instead

and now that tweet has 100 likes and a 3k impressions

I tried to follow a few of them but only a couple did it back. its fine

but what a way to go, huh? lol. My shitpost was blown up but not my content. That happened on tumblr too lol
