And its incredibly eye opening how many people today (including some on this board) mimic and still repeat the same old stuff Ed Norton's character was. From "but what about black on black crime!" right down to their opinion on riots with things like "Rodney King was a criminal! he attacked cops!we didn't see the whole incident!"....We heard a lot of the same shit just a few weeks ago about Floyd and about Brookes, some coming from people on this very board. That type of rhetoric was pertinent at the time that movie took place, was still around when it was made, and still to this day, people unironically hold those same views and have the gall to act smug about it.

Something he said in that dinner scene with the Rodney King riots really struck something as the Brooks murder just happened.

He's all "Imagine if Rodney King ran over and killed Danny. You'd be singing a different tune."

And I'm thinking "he's right. If he did,I would be singing a different tune but he didn't, and it's wrong to treat him as if he would have."

Indeed. There's a reason the victim isn't also the judge. I could be wronged and want to see someone tarred and feathered, but that emotion doesn't validate changing the outcome of a system that is already in place. That's not how it works, despite the difference in how I would act and feel if it was someone I knew vs someone I didn't know.

They could remake American History X for the modern day and it wouldn't have to change a bit.

If anything, the movie shows that Racism is not inherited. The dad was a fuck-up in the movie and made Edward Norton what he is.

I think that is the most poignant part of the movie: it starts with the family.

It was a great movie, but you could argue it's not a very effective movie. It did end up creating some unironic white supremacists who thought Ed Norton's character was "cool."

The scene where the Neo-Nazis beat the black gang at basketball is even treated like it's heroic.

Thats the scene that struck me the most too. Not only just for the bull shit statistics rhetoric, but ignorance of the bigger issues with regard to poverty and the like and how even that still hasnt changed to this day.
