Second time of beating it IIRC. Strangely, i had difficulty beating the final boss which was odd because i felt going into it was way overpowered and the first time i beat it I really had no clue how to use the Junction system.

I think i just spammed all the invincibility items.

Anyway, i have love for the game due to nostalgia reasons. It was my first introduction to FF when i played it briefly at a friends house, but i didn't own the game for a while afterwards.

Despite the slow, clunky battling the first two discs are still fun to me. The whole universe is set up really well and the characters are fun.

But after Disc Two, it became garbage. There's no pacing to the game after that. The story just goes out the window. Esthar is an awful city with terrible design choices. There's basically nothing to see on the entire eastern continent. The party goes to space for no satisfying reason. Sorceress Adel briefly becomes the Big Bad yet doesn't have a single word of dialogue that i recall. And 90% of what you heard about Adel was optional dialogue.

Ultimecia completely comes out of nowhere as the final Big Bad. No history or motivation behind her at all.

Memory loss and time travel are two, huge cop-outs as plot devices.

The GF are never really explained. No one has any kind of character development, except maybe Raijin and Fujin of all people.

I could go on forever, but damn the whole game feels so incomplete and it's such a slog to finish.

It says a lot when the best part of the game is a ridiculously simple yet addictive mini card game that is essentially noughts and crosses.

On to FFIX next which is vastly superior in every way. Except for the card game.

FF8 does have more memorable music, but it's been a while since i played 9 so i can't compare fairly.

Art direction is always gonna be down to personal preference.

Its my least favorite FF game. It took me 4 different attempts throughout my life to finally beat the game. Its solid through the first disc, but I feel like it starts getting worse in disc 2, and is flat out bad in disc 3. Every time Id previously tried playing the game, I always completely lost interest and got derailed around when you go to space.

I finally just decided to power through the game eventually, just to say I beat it. And I have no desire to pick it up again any time soon.

apparently there's time travel, what's even the fricking reason they travel into space with iirc a long ass conversation in the cockpit of a space ship between squall and the gf, why is seifer even the bad guy when he apparently gets a "happy" ending etc.?

You can't compare 9's final boss to 8's.

Necron comes out of nowhere sure. But plot-wise, you can just can think of him as an add-on or an optional boss. There's still a finished story with Kuja as the main villain.

FF9 is my second favorite. Also great game and like the atmosphere.

I played the PS4 remaster of 8 recently. I wanted to see the story again because I hadn't played since the PS1 days and had forgotten most of it.

Thankfully the PS4 version is a breeze to get through. I doubt I would've replayed it if I had to play the original.
