its happening in most states with rising cases

we cant afford to shutdown. the economy must continue at the cost of many lives! otherwise everybody in the country will suffer. the few sacrificed for the many. thats the system we live and thrive to sustain in.

The fact that the richest and most powerful country in the world cannot "afford" to shut down should be a total humiliation for the entire American government.

I live in Houston, and have multiple friends/family members who work in large hospitals. ICUs are nearly filled, and cases are surging like crazy.

Wish we had a leader who actually cared about all the deaths.

It doesnt go from 0 dying to 700 dying/Day in a single day. The incubation time is 5-14 days and most who die do so after a couple weeks of illness.

A common pattern with COVID-19 is that you get moderately ill, then start to feel better and suddenly youre crashing.

There isnt an economy in the world that can sustain multiple, or long term, shutdowns. The best thing to do is take necessary steps to reduce infection(hand washing, masks, etc.) and learn to live with the virus as we have with every virus in the past.

I agree, but dipshit governor is refusing to make face masks mandatory, instead leaving it to the mayors and private businesses to enforce, esentially turning poor little teenager working the cashier at Jack In The Box into law enforcement against a gun toting populous obsessed with their so-called freedom.

He also refuses to scale back capacity of bars and other packed areas from 75%.

Also, just because you didn't die doesn't mean it didn't really suck.
The only person I sort of know who got it ended up in ICU and on a ventilator. There was one day that the staff really seemed to be prepping his dad for his death and expressed uncertainty about if he would make it. His family couldn't visit, so they had to rely on a few calls a day from the nurse for updates. He did pull through and make it but he was still sick a month after getting out of the hospital and still doesn't feel the way he did before. He's 32 and that was like 2 months ago.

What does Lichtenstein have to do with this?

A nation is only going to have the funds to run services as long as that economy keeps running. The amount of debt that the US has as a nation should be enough to remind you how fragile economic status is.

it's called triage, the same thing you'd see on a battlefield. you look at the patients and decide who's more likely to live if you put them on a ventilator...

it was playing god at that point. people died.

likely going to see that happen where the ICU's are getting filled.

This is what I've been saying for a long time, we are a laughing stock. No country in Europe had multiple shutdowns, they had one real one that lasted until they started going down their slope. Republicans don't get that. Trumpers here were like "well Germany is opening up so why can't we" and this right here shows why. Europe basically dragged their nuts across America's forehead, and then Trumpers still say America is the best. We fucked up in ever way imaginable, and we're still in the thick of this shit while they are pretty much clear of it.

Anyone bringing up that it isn't possible for multiple lockdowns as some sort of defense misses the point all together. You only need one lockdown, we were just stupid and pissed it away and now thousands of people will die because we didn't learn anything from these countries.

It's insane how many less privileged people they convinced to risk death so that they can keep riding private from mansion to mansion after this is over. You guys literally volunteer to be a pawn...

The funny thing is. They'll have all their knights, bishops and rooks set up to make sure you don't become a Queen like they are as well.

I don't know who the King is in this metaphor, it got away from me at the end.

Money is King? Since that's what everyone's protecting? There, I found it

once you need a ventilator, you have like a 90% chance of dying. most people that far in, do no not survive. he leaves that part out. and yea, he leaves out that many that recover, recover with permanent damage to their body that is an effect of the virus still being covered up by all media and governments.

thing doctors dont tell you is that being on a ventilator in general massively increases your risk of dying. it bypasses all the parts of your respiratory system designed to keep out opportunistic pathogens and gives them a pathway right to their favorite growing spot.

this is objectively not the best thing to do

the best thing to do is what taiwan and south korea did: contact trace infected people, quarantine those people, and test everyone

(and also still take necessary steps to reduce r0 of the virus)

That's not what people are saying here who live there they are saying the ICUs are filling up fast. You don't want to end up on a ventilator in a hospital even if they have room for you.

He's saying exactly what it is. They aren't shutting down, and if you get seriously ill, apparently it's okay because they have an ICU bed with a ventilator to hook you up on in a desperate last attempt to bring people back from the brink of death
