Resetera is just NeoGAF without a creep in charge. So that.

Honestly, it's fine to lurk in because there is a huge volume of content posted regarding news, rumours, leaks, etc. It's the easiest place to find info on game sales, and there is that excellent thread with the known sales of every Nintendo game ever (https://www.resetera.com/threads/2725/).

However, I would recommend avoiding actual discussion because man, the console wars are alive and well, despite them having a ban on console wars.

but God the collective urge to appear woke and always trying to call people out for not being 100% pro-diversity is really tiring. the mods are pretty heavy handed in doling out temporary bans for equally overzealous reasons as well.

I haven't been to GAF since the outing of the dude in charge so I guess Era by default.

But I also haven't been to Era in months. Forget whether or not you agree with their politics, there's something very... tiring about discussions there. Like you need to write an essay if you want your point to be acknowledged. There's so much pseudointellectualism going on there.

And on the other side of the coin, they ban 'drive-by posts', yet I saw drive-by posts there all the time. What does and doesn't get hit by the ban hammer seems entirely up to a whim.

Point being, as akin to putrid sludge as GameFAQs' userbase is, there's at least a breeziness to conversations that Era severely lacks.

most frustrating thing about ERA's moderation was that it was initially in their whole damn mission statement to have a transparent moderation system after how GAF blew up... but that just never happened and whenever people try to bring it up they're hit for being off-topic, if they make a topic it's closed and told to PM a mod, to which there isn't any discussion and the complaint is dismissed

The thing about the politics of Resetera is, they just use it as a weapon to beat companies they don't like with. The way they were talking about companies' responses to the BLM protests, posing it as a competition between giant capitalist entities using it to make money, was frankly disgusting. "Performatively woke" is spot on, compared to actually progressive spaces it is very different, there's little woke about it beyond the handful of genuine progressives in every thread pointing out the blinding hypocrisy of it all, most of whom get ignored entirely. Still miles better than what Neogaf turned into!

It depends what you are looking for.

The person who said NeoGAF is just resetera with a creep in charge is pretty wrong.

1. Evilore was cleared of any wrongdoing. The girl who claimed what he did later dated him. When more information came out regarding it, she recanted her claim. (NeoGAFs owner). The ResetERA owner banned a girl for pointing out that members of ResetERA had created a discord for sharing pictures of naked underage anime girls and talking about how they wanted to get with underage girls. He banned the girl who reported it, they found some posts from one of the users she reported that was about screwing a 13 year old girl who was a tad learning challenged when he was 20 and deleted them all and tried to brush it under the rug. It was only uncovered by a website that aggregates bans from ResetEra (dunno if they still do but ResetERA is known for banning at a ridiculous rate). So, which has a creepy owner is a weird debate to be sure.

2. ResetERA is a very far left forum. They ban anyone who is Republican, and even democrats they deem as too moderate, if you are brave enough to express your opinion. On the political spectrum of things.

3. NeoGAF if very centered. You will get some extreme far right views there politically, but you will get just as many far left and center of the spectrum views also. The debate there can seem very wild at times due to how much of the spectrum is tolerated. You can get shock value at some of the opinions being so different than your own, but as long as you are not racist, wishing death on someone, or getting very hostile with insults or such, you can debate what you want to. You won't get an echo chamber though. NeoGAF also separates politics to its own forum to keep politics out of gaming and off topic stuff for those who wish to not be bother by politics. ResetERA just has gaming and off topic. There is bleed through into gaming of political ideas as far as moderating at times.

4. ResetERA is much faster than NeoGAF and aggregates news much faster. It is a good site to read for gaming news or even news in general, though you have to remember off topic news will be biased extremely to the left. They also do a relatively good job of sparsing out rumors as true or false and uncovering things before announced. They also have a sprinkled amount of developers on the website and insiders. NeoGAF cannot compete on this, though they are now at least a website that has a decent amount of traffic again now.

Just figure out which you prefer and go from there.

From what I understand Era disproportionately bans leftists. You also see people with completely unironic Hillary Clinton avatars. I guess youd call it neoliberal.

With that said, I took a gander at some British politics topics and they seem better so maybe the mod team leave the left alone if they arent familiar haha.
