Truly a battle of the ages. Now they're slipping ads into the recommendation list on YouTube. I'm running two separate ad blockers, and neither caught it, so I'm sure if I try manually what will inevitably happen is I'll block the ENTIRE recommendation list.

As a side note, the ad is for one of those probably a scam match making sites. Using the same stock picture of a large chested woman in red with glasses that I've seen since literally 2008, across a multitude of different ads for roughly the same product in varying degrees of blatant porn scam.

Every video starts with a frozen, skippable ad for me. It's really jarring how much different the internet is without AdBlock.

Right? Before GameFAQs made me say enough and get an adblocker (because an ad that literally made the site unusable "slipped through") I once got an "ad" that was a fucking hour long. That's not an ad, that is a documentary over what I'm fairly sure was 5 or less minute video. I remember the time of the ad and it having a skip button, I don't remember what they were trying to sell me.

My father was watching YouTube through his smart TV once and got a TV pilot as an "ad". That was on a 5-10 minute video.

There's a limit to how much bullshit people are willing to put up with, and ad companies have long blown past it and don't seem to realize that fact. I don't care how much you spend on an ad campaign online, if it gets blocked because the last ads were already too obnoxious to stand for, you've wasted the money.

This fixed it. Guess they focused on AdBlock specifically.

I've heard they've been going hardest at AdBlock. Probably something to do with the name making them stand out.

I don't see how people use the Internet without adblockers

Last time I did it on GameFAQs I got huge background ads so poorly coded they brought my gaming PC to its knees, multiple video ads talking over each other, and redirects to fake antivirus virus sites

Same, looks like they're specifically targetting adblockers.

Like I keep saying, having non-intrusive ads is fine. The reason most of us use ad-blockers are the annoying ones that play sound, enlarge themselves, pop ups, and the ones that download malware on your computer.

Yeah, the sooner ad companies learn autoplay ads that are loud and obnoxious don't make me want to buy your product, the sooner they might get me to care about ads again.

Fundamentally, I have nothing against advertising, someone has to pay the website owner money to keep the lights on, and without ads it would be me as a user. My problem is, as I've said, with giant flashy ads that are either loud, distracting, or slow the site down or otherwise render it unusable.

Encase it doesn't have me completely covered? I don't know its scope. Can the claim that you're "completely covered" be evidenced?

Agreed, sadly they'll only look at the click/conversion rates rather than the other side of all people who DON'T lol

Adblock Plus or Ublock Origin should nix most ads.

Some will try to guilt/shame you for running them, but ads which are intrusive in terms of volume or flashing colors, and that sometimes run in sequence, are just too annoying.

Maybe they've been conditioned by their smart phones? Those ****ing things track all sorts of data about you, and send ads that are suspiciously relevant to places you've been around lately or topics you've discussed at any point in the recent past....

There's quite the marketing dollar to be made in tracking and using customer data in real time like that...

Maybe. Like, one guy I know, I tried to tell him how obnoxious ads are. And YouTube didn't even have ads at first, so having them now is especially egregious. He was just like, "Well, guess what? Things change." But he's sort of a corporate bootlicker. Outside of him, every time I see someone watching YouTube without ads, I tried to tell them to get adblocker since it was driving me crazy, and they refused.
