Wait what, is this confirmed somewhere else? Considering the HP is constantly going up at different points in the trailer, how could there not be EXP?

I like the look of most everything surrounding the game, but I am not sure how well that combat system jives with me. And I think I saw a timer too? I'm still very interested, but less hyped after seeing a little more.

The end of a battle was briefly shown and it only showed coins going up.

The HP going up could be a number of things. In Color Splash, for instance, your HP increased after every chapter. Could be badges, etc.

Apparently there's a default boots/hammer that don't break and then there are upgraded versions you can buy/find that break after so many uses.

Why can't they just make a traditional system for leveling and equipment.

Im perfectly okay with the improved versions breaking. Thats really no different than running out of FP. The issue was the possibility to run out of even basic attacks in SS/CS

I mean you buy FP replenishing items for battles anyway, and dropping FP flowers after battles was replaced with dropping battle cards after battles in SS/CS, so it's more similar than you think.

The biggest problem with SS/CS was that it was possible to run out of attacks, period, which made you want to avoid battles. If it's not possible to run out of attacks, then that problem is gone and it's just another form of "FP" upkeep for stronger attacks.

I mean we've only seen gameplay of a few areas and three of those for sure had companions so.

That wasn't the only reason to avoid battles. I remember Sticker Star giving you so many coins and stickers for free that there wasn't any reason to battle because the rewards weren't worth it. Given that some of the scenes in the trailer have Mario with over 15000 coins, I'm nervous the same thing will happen here.

After everything I've seen, I feel like this isn't a complete return to form, but I think it will still be enough to be enjoyable. I'm guessing it will be below the first 2 Paper Mario games but above the rest.
