I never played this zelda game but was the weapon breaking mechanic that bad? So many people played it but were able to look past the system supposedly.

after a few hours i had bigger problems making room for all the weapons i wanted, instead of everything breaking. people blow it out of proportion, or gave up really early.

Its a good game but hardly the best game ever. Wasnt even the best launch year title for Switch - that was Mario Odyssey

That being said I can tolerate the fanboyism slightly more than that of the other Zelda games because it fueled early Switch sales and helped prevent it from becoming another WiiU

If botw wasn't a Zelda game it would have been a 6 or 7 tops. It's a squarely mediocre game. Open world is mostly empty. Traversal mechanics were about the only positive thing. Weapon degradation just asinine. I played about 6 hours to give it a chance, and I did not enjoy it.

It was a good game, but had flaws that prevented it from being the best 3D Zelda game imo (I'd have it 5th behind OoT, MM, WW, and TP in some order).

It was a great game but also stripped of most things that make the series unique and great in my eyes

would rather Nintendo continue the series as its own spinoff thing while continuing to make actual LoZ games

Impossible. Skyward Sword didn't get a fraction of the attention BotW got and Nintendo literally stole the show skipping out on a presentation and solely livestreaming BotW gameplay for E3 back in 2016. If climbing was a staple feature among future titles, especially Monster Hunter, I'd be THRILLED.

That's not fair, gamers are conditioned to collect weapons and have equipment on hand for future battles. It's a lot to kill change programming to let weapons, especially the good stuff, be used and run through like water. I recognize the weapon degradation is a solution to the problem of having overpowered weapons like the ice rod and thunder weapons and their combinations. And there's the fact that you can grocery shop at the final dungeon within minutes of getting off the Great Plateau. But I still think it's a sloppy solution all around. If I get to a chance to do a replay on the PC using this,

As a Zelda fan, I hated BOTW. Couldn't play for more than 2 hours. Very bad game indeed.

Except after a while you start to realize just how empty and bland the world is.

The game is filled with nooks, crannies, locations and objects that reference every part of the Zelda lore, a 100 or so shrines to find and complete, enemy base camps, several different environmental biomes, and etc.

If anything, the more I played, the more I realized just how many puzzles were hidden in the environment itself. 50 hours in I was finding new things that blew my mind.

I was shocked by how mediocre wind waker was. The story is cool, conceptually, and the visual treat of sunken Hyrule is a great experience.... but the game wasn't very fun on average. The sailing was awful, even though I played the HD version with the swift sail. It was still an annoying time sink.

WW had moments, but it's in the bottom half of major Zelda games for me. My top 3 are OOT, LttP, and TP

Still remains the only Zelda game to date I have never finished. I've tried 4 times now and I end up just giving up. Beautiful world with nothing to do in it.

120 shrines, many of which are copies or slight remixes of others, from which the reward is one segment toward getting a heart or a small stamina segment.

Honestly, one of the strangest design decisions in botw is the coooking system... and how temporary hearts and stamina can basically obliterate the need to clear shrines for more health or stamina.

i feel like it's an enjoyable 'fantasy version of nature wants to kill you' simulator and that it activates certain areas of the brain that make you want to keep playing for awhile, but it's def not a top several LoZ for me

The first hour of W/W does suck weiner but it's rare for a zelda game to make you feel so powerless, and on top of that, the next visit where you just slaughter the Moblins instead of hiding from them was peak catharsis as a child.

No arguments about KH2 though. That intro is p awful. The gameplay aged like wine though

I think that contributes to the sense that the game can be approached in any way of your choosing.
