she came up with a good idea but she didn't take it far enough. there is this huge global society of wizards but we only ever see one tiny corner of it. some of the books should have taken place at other schools. why didn't Harry become an exchange student? I want to see what the other schools are like instead of just getting glimpses by seeing their students coming to Hogwarts. I hate when stuff like that doesn't expanded on. Like Bleach, the anime about the Japanese afterlife. I like Bleach but I have always hated that they won't show the rest of the world outside Japan. I never finished it but someone told me late in the story in the manga or anime, someone mentions that other cultures have their own version of a Soul Society but the creator refuses to actually show it. same concept. both the creators of Bleach and Harry Potter are guilty of making a really complex world but just teasing about 90% of that world

It's more than that. It started as flat-out children's books, and the content got darker as the later books came out, which correlated with all the little kids who fell in love with the original story to fall in love with the sequels, because they were basically growing up with the characters, moreso than most other YA fiction.

Its IMO the biggest reason Harry Potter got so overwhelmingly popular (and why its not going to be as big with any other demographic).

Back when Harry Potter and Pokemon were huge, I did not understand why people warned about witchcraft, satanism, etc.

The books are basically YA and somehow people were convinced they are for mainstream adults.

Then I saw some of these young adults take the books way too seriously the older they got, apply them to every political topic as if a work of fiction was prophetic and had something to say about every world event, play dress up and spellcasting as fully grown adults and so on. Then I understood.

The author of Bleach did a one shot about another portion of Soul Society a few months ago. It's called Burn The Witch and takes place in London's Soul Society where they have to be certified to become witches and wizards and fight dragons with guns.

I wish they would do a full spin off manga/anime about that. that sounds cool

She went the opposite direction of George Lucas.

Lucas thought of the great idea and his original works were pretty good also and created a huge fanbase. Same with JK Rowling.

Then everything after the original works was pretty terrible from both of them. But with Star Wars, basically anything went from other creators. Whereas with Harry Potter there has been total restriction. There is no such thing as a Harry Potter extended universe. Even Disney is better at managing Star Wars than JK Rowling has been at managing Harry Potter.

There are people who had problems with a sorting hat determining a child's entire life, an irredeemably evil house to place these supposedly inherently evil children in, an entire school including the professors treating the house as a lost cause, and then the author trying to backtrack and say that wasn't the meaning even though the text shows otherwise.

At least in the movies they had a couple examples of Slytherin members who had some redeeming factors. I get the feeling book Snape would have tried to fuck Harry as a replacement for Lily had Harry been born a girl or if Snape was bisexual.
