Capcom can't take away from us what was already ours.

Remember how they asked fans to make designs and then blamed fans for not doing enough?

I still cant wrap my head around their logic of cancelling it. They wanted to release a cheap $2 demo with ten missions to gauge interest in the project as a whole. They COMPLETE the demo. Its ready for release. The demo they were going to use to gauge interest. But then they cancel the project due to lack of interest anyway...

No interest in a demo because it was gauged to be unwanted due to little activity in a backroom community place.... that wasnt really advertised nor acknowledged that it would affect the project

That still makes zero sense to me. They had a finished demo. Why not release it? That would be the definitive way to gauge actual interest.

It's still one of my favorite action rpgs to this day with nothing really comparing to it outside of maybe Zelda.

Can you imagine a Meg Man Legends that borrows from Breath of the Wild? Maaaaaannnn..

Mega Man Legends were not good games. And neither would Mega Man Legends 3 have been. I thought them clunky to play back in the 90s, I would not like to revisit them now.

It would have been bad. Really bad.

Sequels that come out a decade plus later never live up to the expectations. MML is from a different time in gaming, a lot of its charm comes from this. A decade later you're either going to have something that goes for that style and fails pissing people off, goes for the style but feels archaic which pisses people off or go more modern and feel either completely different or off enough to piss people off.

This is multiplied by the fact it's a PS1 IP which are even harder to stylistically replicate. The only games that due it well are survival horror games and even then old school SH is pretty niche these days.

They didn't make Megaman Legends 3 because they weren't gonna make money off it.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/tgs-07-mega-man-celebrates-20th-anniversary/1100-6179759/

"I really have a lot of memories with all the Mega Man titles and it's difficult to just pick one of them as my favorite," said Inafune. "But if I were to do so, it would be the game that I'd consider to be like a clumsy son. It's Mega Man Legends, a title that really didn't sell well in the Mega Man franchise."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_Legends_2

The PlayStation version of Mega Man Legends 2 was the 139th best-selling video game in Japan in 2000 at 88,131 units sold. The PSP version of the game barely made it into the Famitsu top 500 best-sellers list in Japan for 2005 at a mere 15,309 units sold by the end of the year.

There you have it. If you have any middle school level education of basic economics or business then you will no problem understanding why they stopped MML3.

Yes it was stupid on Capcom's part for teasing MML3 and leading people on. Still, it would be stupid to release a game that was gonna lose money when it's better to invest in their other series such as Street Fighter, DMC, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.

Capcom has given back plenty to the us gamers that we take for granted or won't acknowledge. For example; they gave us Megaman vs Street Fighter FOR FUCKING FREE. It's still free right now.

They were doing a good job matching the style before they cut and ran. They were even bringing in fan designs and IIRC having people vote on them to ensure that they didnt disappoint aesthetically

The rest of this is just excuses. Nobody wouldve cared if they updated the mechanics and controls as long as it retained vaguely the same style of gameplay (TPS with a focus on dodging and lots of weapons) and was fun. Hell, MML2 has significantly different controls compared to MML and those games were only 2 years apart.

Yep. The whole thing reeks of some highup at Capcom wanting to spite Inafune for leaving.

Inafune's importance to the series was always overstated. Dude drew characters and acted as producer a couple of times. He wasn't even the series creator like people used to think, nor the one who designed Mega Man himself. He mostly copy/pasted Mega Man hundreds of times and changed a few details.

If anyone deserves credit for making the series great, it's Inti Creates. They've been the dev for pretty much all the best games in the series.

It wasnt a tease, it was a full blown announcement with a fan dev area they later backtracked as saying it was never greenlit, why by all accounts is a lie. They literally put resources into making a paid demo, completed said demo, and didnt even release it to at the least recoup resources put into it.

https://www.rockman-corner.com/2020/06/mega-man-legends-composer-is.html

ttps://twitter.com/nextfg3/status/1270412112293027845?s=20
On June 9th, Mega Man Legends composer Makoto Tomozawa took to Twitter to ask fans if they would be interested in crowdfunding Mega Man Legends 3. You can find those tweets above.

He is asking fans to simply RT one or both tweets with hopes of achieving "five digits". In other words, 10,000 retweets.

Mr. Tomozawa did not elaborate on why he made these tweets. From an outsiders perspective, though, it appears he is merely entertaining the thought. This is not an official call to action, mind you.

However, it's worth pointing out that, although Mr. Tomozawa is no longer employed at Capcom, he maintains a working relationship with the company. In the early 2000s, Tomozawa departed Capcom to compose music at Dimps Corporation, a position which has allowed him to continue to collaborate with Capcom. He was the Sound Co-Director for Street Fighter IV (lead Sound Director for Super SFIV), Sound Line Manager for Street Fighter V, and served as one of eight guest composers for Mega Man 10's score. (due in no small part to his role as Mega Man 7's composer)

Alone, Mr. Tomozawa cannot actually start a crowdfund campaign for Mega Man Legends 3. I don't believe that's his intention. But given his past relationship with Mega Man Legends and current relationship with Capcom, Mr. Tomozawa is in a unique position to gather feedback and support for Mega Man Legends 3 in this, the year 2020.

If you'd like to see Mega Man Legends 3 make a comeback, retweet those tweets!

It's no secret that the main reason many games are developed for handhelds is because they're cheaper. With the 3DS effectively gone, there's pretty much no hope for the game to ever release.

That's not the part you save on by going handheld. It's stuff like low-res textures, a single resolution, less complex interfaces, smaller game worlds, etc.
