For me it just revealed the problem to be far bigger than I thought. For instance, the protesters in Paris aren't just doing it for solidarity, they are protesting an eerily similar case that happened in their country. I'm not naive enough to think that racism is a uniquely American problem, but it turns out our policing isn't either

I was wondering why him? Why now? Its probably a combination of the obvious reasons [such as being fed up with police brutality and Trump's America] with many people being enticed to come out of quarantine after half a year of social distancing.

it is many things. it wasn't just specifically about this one man. he's just the final straw. when republicans try to point out mistakes in his past, they are missing what this movement is about.

It wasnt just the last and most blatant straw. It happened during a time when a record number of people are out of work and have time to stand up against it. I hope real change can happen despite our current administration.

it is. both the police and politicians are compromised by organized crime . the mexican mafia has infiltrated all aspects of Mexican leadership. and many cops and politicians are working for them

I think the timing of it has everything to do with the tension that has been building up since Trump got elected. Obviously this issue predates him by many decades, but a combination of a lot of other things including record unemployment rates just caused everything to bubble over. Of course, it would have happened eventually anyway and unless there are some major changes it will happen again

Its not like the rest of the world is pleased with the US government. They see Trump condemning the protestors and supporting the cops, they think about their own experiences, and they immediately know which side they're on.

While I support BLM and police reform, this is hardly a revoution. Maybe I'm a cynic, but at best, we're going to have politicians promise a lot and simply not deliver on anything.

It's honestly kind of disappointing it spread worldwide. Not that it shouldn't have, but it's evidence that this sort of injustice is a worldwide problem and not just our broken system, and that's a wake up call to someone like me who spends my life in my own little bubble. Police brutality isn't some rare occurrence you hear on the news, its a worldwide problem and it's been for a large part ignored by the people it doesn't effect.

2020 for sure will be counted as a historic year. they have made books and documentaries about I think it was 1968. it's seen as a very important year in american history. well now 2020 joins it. I think will still be talking about 2020 100 years from now. future generations will study it's events in school.

I was wondering this myself, there was so many other people who hands down did nothing wrong and were victims of police abuse (like that guy who told the officer he had a registered gun and was shot).

While what the officer did was obviously wrong, why set the country on fire over a human who wasnt even a good person? If I understand correctly (someone inform me if I am wrong) but wasnt George Floyd a meth head who threatened a pregnant woman at gunpoint if she didnt give him drugs?

We need a police reform but why did this whole thing spark from this guy?

his murder was fully caught on film in full clear uninterrupted HD. for 8 and a half minutes the entire world watched this man get slowly crushed and chocked to death by a cop who was ignoring a crowd screaming and begging to stop killing him.

most murders that police do either aren't caught on film or the visuals aren't perfect. some of it being off camera or out of focus or no sound, or other things. this video left no doubts to what happened. its in your face, demanding your attention. that is why George Floyd's murder sparked a revolution. something similar I think happened in the Hunger Games when a character is killed on camera and people react like they are now. this time reminds me of that scene

Exactly, when this blows over things will go back to the same as they were before. We're not going to completely disband all police agencies, but hopefully they will at least change their behavior.

It wasn't him, and now. It was him, but before him it was Breonna Taylor. And before her it was Arbery. And shit I can't even remember the order anymore after this. Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, Eric Garner, and so many others who've done nothing wrong just fucking murdered in cold blood with zero repercussions.

Floyd was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Part of it because the video of his death was so fucking gruesome. 8 minutes and 46 seconds of being choked to death as the people who were supposed to help did nothing, all over a fake $20 bill that he probably didn't even know was fake.

I think another huge part of it was people being unemployed because of the virus. In the past, you might get a day or two of protests on the weekend, but then people need to go to work to pay their bills. If you aren't working, you suddenly have the free time and energy to keep the protests going.

only one of the 4 has the offered up a defense so far . I think his name is Lane. one of the 3 other cops. not the one who did the direct kill. his defense is "those citizens watching us should have attacked us and made us stop!"

Thats a weird thing to say.

But I guess it is his end of the world basically, so in that position you are bound to say anything desperate.
